WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ELECTROCHEMISTRY

Part of the School of Chemistry
School of Electrochemistry

Electrochemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies chemical reactions (involving electron transfer) which take place in solution at an interface. Hence defined as "interfacial charge transfer", electrochemistry typically looks at the relations between chemical and electrical phenomenons.

Electrochemistry plays an important role in science in general: photosynthesis, nerve excitation, blood coagulation, vision, smell, membrane transport to name a few. Applications include chemical synthesis, manufacture of electronic components, corrosion, metal refining and recycling, batteries and fuel cells.
