  • And for those wondering, as I was, where that name comes from, the OED says it's from the same Old English root as "Irish", and was the word that the folks from the (Scots-speaking) Lowlands called the Scottish Gaelic–speaking fellas in the Highlands.       • I agree, redirect to the dab page Erse. I was responsible for creating this redirect long ago (I don't remember why, but possibly because of the Samuel Johnson reference quoted above). This issue with these redirects is that they don't redirect to an encyclopedic subject by this name. But rather, the section which these redirects target explains an aspect of the article's subject, but the subject is just about arrangements while identifying them with the adjective "alternative". Two issues here ... the vagueness of the word "other" since the word is not clear on what it is meant to exclude, and the target article isn't correct anyways.
