The result of the discussion was: speedy rename WP:C2D per Chemically peculiar star. – Fayenatic London 10:36, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Would be nice to be eponymous with the main article. Also "peculiar" as applied to stars covers a lot more than just the chemically peculiar ones. Lithopsian (talk) 15:36, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from Limerick (city)

The result of the discussion was: keep. plicit 03:49, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This would match the article. Limerick City and County Limerick have now been merged into Limerick City and County Council. It has been objected that this would be an ambiguous category, but if it is really ambiguous we should rename the article and nobody has proposed that. If this is agreed there are some occupational subcategories to follow. I am not suggesting a merger between Category:People from County Limerick and Category:People from Limerick (city) although it is a bit problematic as the boundary between the two has altered over time. Rathfelder (talk) 07:59, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • General comment, it regularly happens that an article does not have a disambiguator while the category has. That makes sense because you can categorize articles without checking the category page, so the chance of mistakes is bigger. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:55, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - the rationale is bizarre as Limerick (about a city), County Limerick (about a county) and Limerick City and County Council (about a council) are 3 distinct articles. The nominator, highly experienced at cfd over many years, should have mentioned that this is an opposed speedy and the present name was chosen unanimously at cfd: Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 March 2#Limerick. Oculi (talk) 09:56, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is no longer a legal distinction between the city and the county as there was in 2011. Rathfelder (talk) 13:12, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment/Question – Quite a few subcategories like "X from Limerick" do not include the city disambiguator. Is it needed? Does the category mean to include, or to exclude, persons from the county but not the city? If we can clarify the intent, maybe we can decide more easily. Dicklyon (talk) 06:08, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. As usual, the nominator misunderstands the situation, and makes an ill-considered proposal which would create ambiguity. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:57, 10 June 2022 (UTC) T[reply]
  • As I understand it neither the city nor the county any longer have any seperate existence or boundaries. Newcastle Westis no longer the county town. In the past the boundary between the town and the city has been moved. Many biographical articles merely say that the person came from or was born in Limerick, without specifying exactly where, so we can only really allocate articles to the county when they specify a location, or mention the county or city, which they rarely do, so the ambiguity comes from the articles. Rathfelder (talk) 22:50, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- Most Irish (and British) counties take their name from their main town. If some one is born in Limerick, it probably means the city. If it is another part of the county, I would expect the article to name a place or say "County Limerick". Peterkingiron (talk) 16:50, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • NB I am not proposing merging any categories, just matching the title to the article. Nobody seems to think that the articles are ambiguous. I dont know what user:BrownHairedGirl thinks I have misunderstood. At the conclusion of this discussion I plan to propose speedy changes to bring the other categories in line. Rathfelder (talk) 19:19, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Rathefelder, write Nobody seems to think that the articles are ambiguous. But that is demonstrably false, because all the head articles on these towns have a hatnote stressing their ambiguity: see the articles Limerick, and also e.g. Waterford, Sligo, Kilkenny, Carlow, Galway, Cavan, Longford, Roscommon, Wicklow, Wexford.
It follows several other absurdities by Rathfelder in just this one thread:
    • In the nomination, Rathfelder writes Limerick City and County Limerick have now been merged into Limerick City and County Council.
That is false: Limerick City and County Limerick have not been merged. What happened was that their councils were merged: Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council have been merged into Limerick City and County Council. Both the city and county still exist, which is why the title of the new council explicitly names both entities.
    • Rathfelder failed to disclose here that their speedy nomination had been opposed by two editors[1][2]
    • Rathfelder failed to disclose that the current title was chosen at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 March 2#Limerick
    • Rathfelder claimed Newcastle Westis no longer the county town.
Nonsense: the phrase "no longer" indicates that it used to be the county town, but in reality Newcastle West was never the county town
I accept that Rathefelder doesn't know what they misunderstood. That is the entire problem: that Rathfelder does not understand, doesn't do the research, makes piles of demonstrably false assertions, and still doesn't understand even when the problem is explained to them by multiple editors. Rathfelder has behaved like this for many years, and it is long past time for Rathfelder to recuse themself from categorisation or be banned from it for repeatedly demonstrating a severe and disruptive lack of competence. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:42, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
According to the article Newcastle West: "It is also the county town" Rathfelder (talk) 21:16, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So Rathfelder is now taking up 2 mutually exclusive positions on the wholly irrelevant status of West Newcastle. More relevant would be the fact that all cities in the Republic of Ireland had (city) appended to their category names after a series of cfds in 2011 carefully argued by User:Laurel Lodged and BHG, the last being Kilkenny: 2011 March 14#Category:Kilkenny. (Rathfelder has created 500 new categories of bewildering variety since 30 May 2022: diff.) Oculi (talk) 11:24, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • If the category isn't moved (as it seems to be), then the sub-categories should be renamed with "(city)" added to them. --Gonnym (talk) 08:48, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per opposers. Nobody is "from" Limerick City and County Council except inspectors. Johnbod (talk) 16:36, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
