UPE?

[edit]

A while ago, you brought an SPI case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/125BOP against a WP:UPE ring whose targets included Daniel W. Nebert. An editor Bo2pup with signs of precociousness has shown up to push some of the same old there, though with more restraint and competence than before (despite similarity of name). They otherwise are editing marginally notable biographies in a pattern that makes me think WP:UPE -- per WP:BEANS, perhaps should say why offline if at all. It is always possible that I am being paranoid, however. Does this pattern remind you of anything? Russ Woodroofe (talk) 18:23, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Meh, looked harder and found one almost-certainly linked account. I think that there are more, but checkusers will sort out. I hope everything is ok with you! Russ Woodroofe (talk) 11:11, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. I got my tools back and took a look but I don't have anything more to say than Girth did, at least technically. Spicy (talk) 00:24, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder to participate in Wikipedia research

[edit]

Hello,

I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Wikipedia. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.

Take the survey here.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Change to the CheckUser team, November 2024

[edit]

At their request, the Arbitration Committee restores the CheckUser permissions of Spicy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log).

So glad to hear this, Spicy. You were an invaluable member of the Checkuser team. I know that I relied on your almost encyclopedic knowledge of sockpuppets, past and present. Liz Read! Talk! 00:11, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hello Spicy, thank you for unblocking me! I wanted to ask if it’s okay for me to help Wikipedia by reverting vandalism and handling various edit requests (COI and semi-protected or even ECP?). I’m concerned that others might misinterpret it as gaming the system. Even after gaining EC rights, I assure you that I’ll use them responsibly and avoid disruptive edits. The AP (talk) 13:30, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Use your judgment. Spicy (talk) 15:26, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
