Congratulations!

[edit]

You've just won round 12 of Wikifun! :) Would you like to devise the villa^Wquestions for the next round? Oh, and what's your favourite flavour of Kellogg's and where should it be shipped to? -- Ravn 20:17, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for congratulations and the proposition (I suppose ^W deletes the preceding word... (?)), but I feel not (yet) competent enough for this - in particular, I still ignore many ways to find information on WP, which would make my questions too easy for experienced participants and thus frustrate the more naive ones. But why not at a later moment, after some more participations in WP:WF (this was my first "real" one). — MFH:Talk 23:04, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I can e-mail you my address, but I fear the shipping will cost much more than the contents. And actually I'm not really a "cereal" guy - I prefer an egg with "Speck" or "Bratkartoffeln" for breakfast. I mostly eat those cereals my kids only wanted for the plastic gadget in the box ;-) But of course it would be a nice "trophy" reminding me of my glorious victory^W^W^W this Wikifun round. So I'll think about the adequate flavour... (Is there a list on WP ? ;-)
I certainly don't mind the shipping. But if you prefer, I can create a virtual box to brag with on your Wikipedia userpage as well. ;) For the list of flavours, try Kellogg's#Products. I just read through some of the descriptions, it's quite entertaining.
I hope to see you again in next round.. I will ask on the Wikifun talk page if someone is interested in becoming the next editor.
P.S.: There's an explanation of the ^W sequence at ^W. Sorry, that was slang. -- Ravn 09:56, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think I usually prefer the classical Frosties (did you know that Tony the Tiger was voiced by some Mr Ravenscroft - no link with your wiki pseudonym?), but I didn't know about the (undocumented?) cereals called Pirates of the Caribbean - is this available at your place? (This is related to my address... and unavailable here AFAIK.)
P.S.: Should I explain on WP:WF/talk why I feel a bit too (wiki-)"immature" to be questionsetter? I learned lots of things from this first real particiation (I didn't know anything about all these Special: pages - still don't know how to use them properly), but this makes me think that I should learn still a bit more... — MFH:Talk 02:46, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't heard of the pirates either, but I will have a look :). It sounds like a promotional thing to me; and the movie was called "Fluch der Karibik" around here. It's not unusual that a winner does not want to become questionsetter, usually for lack of time. But feel free to comment, it's a wiki after all. ;) I personally don't doubt that you could make some great questions. -- Ravn 10:11, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DAB Machine operation

[edit]

I noticed your "machine" disambiguated the word transcription to Transcription (genetics) at the Luciferase article. That is fine, but did you know that you don't need repeat the disambiguated word after the pipe sign "|" when a (parenthised) suffix exists in the article title? So instead of this [[Transcription (genetics)|transcription]] you can just have [[transcription (genetics)|]] . --Blainster 03:34, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I know that, but it takes time to implement all the small shortcuts correctly. I put this one on my to do list. :) -- Ravn 13:24, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Strangely enough, it seems to me that sometimes on saving a page with a [ [ xxx (yyy) | ] ] "shortcut" link, the wiki software automatically inserts the xxx after the |. I just did a page creation with that in, and without any robot passing by, the xxx was there twice. The only explanation I have (apart from schizophrenia of mine) is that I could imagine that since it costs some time to do the expansion, the wiki software automagically does it on saving the page (?). — MFH:Talk 22:11, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Berlin wiki meeting

[edit]

Hello, I have been mulling over this for some time (actually at least a year), and would like to propose a meeting of the Berlin-residing Users of the english wiki. Wolud you be interested at all, or do you think this a bad idea ? Thoughts are welcome. Cheers. Lectonar 20:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lectonar. Out of curiosity, I would attend :) It depends a bit on timing, but I think this is a nice idea. -- Ravn 20:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I must admit that curiosity is my main incentive :))), and now we're already 3: ProhibitOnions also thinks this a good idea ... and I'm kind of surprised that so many Berliners are online just now... Lectonar 21:01, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
After having collected some users willing to come, I created this subpage. Would you be so kind and add your ideas? Lectonar 12:56, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Invite

[edit]

Hello! You look like someone who might be interested in joining the Biography WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you help us :-) plange 07:56, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was just wondering why you have been removing Petroleum from this article (even as a `see also') on the grounds that it is included in a hatnote (which is in opposition to the de facto standard for disambiguation pages, the general spirit and implication of MoS:DP and MOS:DP's primary-topic recommendations)? Unless you think that people don't call petroleum oil, it should be there. In fact I think you will find that in everyday usage, most references to oil mean petroleum. I would be grateful if you would respond on Talk:Oil (disambiguation).

Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 11:59, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that I have noticed Talk:Oil#"Moving types of oils to oil disambig ...." and don't think it applies to petroleum, which is just called oil without any context whatsoever (let alone an attributive). In non-scientific (e.g.: commercial) circles, referring to oil usually means petroleum alone and other oils would be called oils, non-petroleum oil or similar. BTW, I supported Oil being used to cover the general sense.

Publishing project on Cambodia (with section on Champa)

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Kheng Pytou Kethya, Director of Sastra Publishing, a publisher of textbooks and other academic materials based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I am writing you today because we would like to pursue our efforts in making academic material in Khmer language more accessible to Cambodian students and faculty as well.

Sastra Publishing is currently working on a book project about ethnicity in Cambodia in which we have a section on Champa. We have come across your picture on Wikipedia website taken in My Son and entitled [This edifice, located at My Son, has been labelled "B5" by scholars. It is a storehouse from the 10th century A.D. The saddle-shapped roof is characteristic of Cham temple architecture].

We are contacting you to see whether there would any possibility for you to send us the original picture (with the highest possible resolution). We would, of course, acknowledge your contribution as part of the book's photography credits.

Please let us know your thoughts. You can contact us at the following email address:

kethya@gmail.com kethya@khmerstudies.org

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards

AfD nomination of Ernst Christian Wilhelm Ackermann

I have nominated Ernst Christian Wilhelm Ackermann, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ernst Christian Wilhelm Ackermann. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Oo7565 (talk) 08:48, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Ravn! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Arnulf Rainer - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Astrid Kumbernuss - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File:Mt.bromo-crater.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Mt.bromo-crater.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

The article Skyhook (structure) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Much of this article is clearly original research - the lengthy description of design and operation is inadequately sourced and bears all the hallmarks of WP:OR. It's also very much of a textbook piece contrary to WP:NOTTEXTBOOK. It should either be properly sourced and heavily pruned, or merged into Space elevator where the concept is already mentioned.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. andy (talk) 10:07, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wa watercraft model photo request (Berlin)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of SHAC

[edit]

Hello Ravn,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged SHAC for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, SHAC (disambiguation).

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Wikifun-immix1.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:30, 1 November 2020 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
