Comments from 2004

[edit]

Hey everybody - Just to let you know I'm actually logging in with my user name now and I've actually taken the time to set my signature preferences. Most of you have no clue what I'm talking about, but it's something that helps me out... --Jwinters | Talk 17:41, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Your comment on my VFD entry came so quickly (three minutes) that I haven't even yet seen the whole VFD page with my last booboo corrected. And it's hardly any wonder that there are edit conflicts in putting thing on VFD. It took much longer out of my morning than it should have, I think. And perhaps VFD doesn't scale ... ;Bear 19:07, 2004 Nov 10 (UTC)

Yeah, that was my second time on VFD -- Jwinters | Talk 03:19, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Ok, I've succeeded in screwing up today. I edited pages that were being deleted, so when I saved, it recreated the page. :-p Sorry to the admins. I'm going to stop for a while, since I seem to be screwing up so much. -- Jwinters | Talk 04:58, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Westfield Southcenter Expansion.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 03:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joshua Harris

[edit]

You might enjoy reading the following url:

http://ikdg.wordpress.com/2008/04/30/what-problems-joshua-harris-acknowledged-about-how-singles-relate-at-his-church-but-doesn%e2%80%99t-share-on-his-website/

It talks about what Harris mentioned and includes one person's account of how "effective" that message was. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geocacher301 (talkcontribs) 20:37, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With all the offense you seemed to have taken including feeling people dragged Harris through the dirt(or something like that) I am surprised that you won't discuss the points being brought up and say it isn't worth the energy. I have never received an answer as to why Harris doesn't share problems with his system and his not sharing problems he has seen in his own church. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geocacher301 (talkcontribs) 15:44, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You do make a point when you say that Harris "has addressed problems in his church. In the sermon which you referred me to, he talks about it." You say it accurately about addressing problems in only his church. That is great for the 2-3K people that heard the message and if you allow for internet downloads it might take the figure up to 10K. His book sold millions of copies. I cannot believe you think that Harris giving a message that reached so few people can now absolve him of all the problems he has created with his book.

What about the other millions that Joshua Harris hasn't been so free about sharing this with? Why wouldn't Harris at least shared these problems on his web page? That way maybe some of the other millions would be aware of the defects of the system he is promoting. If problems occurred in his own church then surely they are happening at other churches. One reader commented that Harris message hadn't reached the SG church she attended.

I image it is hard to admit to the masses that there are problems with a system he so zealously promoted and made significant dollars from. Harris would have to do some back pedaling. Apparently he does not have the humility to do that or is between a rock and a hard place with the home schooling crowd that he is in with. Maybe he is just ignoring the problems he created and moving on to something else.

I could excuse some for his being a young zealous person when he wrote the book (though his church he was in should have known the problems). Now that he knows it isn't as defect free as he seemed to indicate in his book he should share that with as many people as possible. This being absent from his website is irresponsible IMO. Geocacher301 (talk) 15:28, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I never heard a response back from you on this. This leads me to believe there is no good explanation. I never received a response back from Harris on this also. Geocacher301 (talk) 16:52, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Per your request I won't comment here any more since you said you won't discuss this. I would just suggest you not make comments about "dragging Harris through the mud" if you aren't willing to discuss the issue. It sounds like you "took offense" as they say in some circles but then was unwilling to discuss the issue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geocacher301 (talkcontribs) 01:54, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you seen this "smoking gun" writtend by another leader in SGM?

Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group

[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided - one is April 8 (Wednesday) starting at 6 pm and the other is April 18 (Saturday) starting at 10 am. (Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration.) Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 18:34, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Washington

[edit]

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Washington might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. I have started a discussion on the projects talk page soliciting the opinions of the members of the project if this project would be interested in being supported by WikiProject United States. Please feel free to comment on your opinions about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 01:34, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. 2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
