Carpenter (surname) - request for help

Hello,

When you get a chance, could you review, make suggestions or comments on the Carpenter (surname)?

Any help would be appreciated. Some minor disagrement going on listing those with the surname Carpenter. For example: All "David Carpenter"s being redirected to another disambig page just for David Carpenters. Another example: Possible listing of Carpenters mentioned in various fiction being reduntant if there is no article in wikipedia even if such an article might be or could be pending.

Again, anything would be helpful to prevent an edit war or other bad feelings.

Thank you. Jrcrin001 (talk) 20:48, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there... you still 'round these parts? Jmlk17 19:57, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

meetup?

Hi there, I'm coming to your neck of the woods next week (Sun-Thurs) for a family trip, and was wondering if you and/or other wikimedians in the area would like to have a meetup over coffee or something. I can't tell if there have been any meetups in the Columbus area or not? I'm not sure if I'll have any transportation, but I can probably borrow a car at some point. best, -- phoebe / (talk to me) 17:16, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I just found the Ohio meetup page. So I created Wikipedia:Meetup/Ohio 2 and will spam the people listed there. Let me know if you're interested. -- phoebe / (talk to me) 17:27, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To my knowledge, Ohio 1st meet-up fell through. I would definitely not mind meeting for coffee, food, or drinks. I apologize for taking a few days to respond; I'm not as active as I used to be. Fell free to email me here. hmwith 20:30, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possible oversight job

Are you still an oversighter? If so, I might have a job for you ... Thanks, — Kralizec! (talk) 19:12, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not anymore. I wasn't very active, so I resigned. My apologies. I hope that the job got done. hmwith 20:26, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Well, in that case you might want to update the "Interwiki participation" matrix on your userpage as it still describes you as an oversighter. — Kralizec! (talk) 13:26, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I hadn't done that. 'Doh. hmwith 05:16, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 16:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

Dear Hmwith,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 18:33, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DBT

Nice job on the DBT article. I have only one complaint. You removed the underlines from the characters making up the acronyms. I think they were useful and would like to restore them. -- Cdw ♥'s(talk) 02:42, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. We don't really use underlines here, per WP:BADEMPHASIS (see the last bullet point). The first letters definitely don't need to be capitalized, bold, and underlined. People can figure out that it's an acronym. It's an encyclopedia, not a how-to manual. hmwith 03:18, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Suri Cruise for deletion

Hi! We're dropping you this rather unexpected message on your talk page because you signed up (either quite a while ago or rather recently) to be a member of the Vandalism Studies project. Sadly, the project fell into semi-retirement a few years ago, but as part of a new plan to fix up the Counter-Vandalism Unit, we're bringing back the Vandalism Studies project, with a new study planned for Late 2012! But we need your help. Are you still interested in working with us on this project? Then please sign up today! (even if you signed up previously, you'll still need to sign up again - we're redoing our member list in order to not harass those who are no longer active on the Wiki - sorry!) If you have any questions, please leave them on this page. Thanks, and we can't wait to bring the project back to life! -Theopolisme (talk) & Dan653 (talk), Coordinators

WP Poetry and The Canterbury Tales task force

As someone who is listed as a participant for WikiProject Poetry, I hope you will be interested to learn of an attempt to revive the WP and alongside this the creation of task force to improve coverage of The Canterbury Tales. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
