The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is an American animated television series based on and serving as a continuation to the Nickelodeon animated series The Fairly OddParents (2001–2017) created by Butch Hartman. It is the third series in the franchise, after The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder (2022). The series premiered with a sneak peek on May 17, 2024, and officially premiered on May 20.[1][2] The first 10 episodes were also released on Netflix on November 14.[3][4]
Premise
[edit]Serving as a continuation of the original series, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish tells the story of Hazel Wells, a 10-year-old girl who has recently moved to the city of Dimmadelphia because of her father's new job. On top of being in an unfamiliar environment, it is also the first time she has been without her older brother, Antony, who left to start college, leaving her feeling lonely and unsure of herself. All that changes when her pink-and-green-haired neighbors next door reveal themselves to be no ordinary neighbors but fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda, who come out of retirement to become Hazel's fairy godparents.[5][6]
Voice cast
[edit]Main
[edit]- Ashleigh Crystal Hairston as:
- Hazel Wells,[5] an adventurous 10-year-old girl with unique interests and an even wilder imagination. Cosmo and Wanda leave retirement to become her fairy godparents and grant her every wish as a result of her brother Antony leaving for college, making her feel lonely.[7]
- Mrs. Mack, one of Hazel's teachers.
- Hazel Marionette, a ventriloquist dummy counterpart of Hazel who is often wished as a stand-in for class whenever she is out fixing problems with her fairies.
- Lezah Sllew, the Anti-Fairy counterpart of Hazel who came into existence when Hazel became a fairy in the episode "Fairy for a Day".
- Daran Norris, reprising his roles from the original series, as:
- Cosmo,[5] Hazel's fairy godfather and Wanda's husband.
- Jorgen Von Strangle, the self-described "toughest fairy in the universe" and chief instructor of the Fairy Godparent Academy, styled after Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- Anti-Cosmo, the Anti-Fairy counterpart of Cosmo.
- Susanne Blakeslee, reprising her roles from the original series, as:
- Wanda,[5] Hazel's fairy godmother and Cosmo's wife.
- Anti-Wanda, the Anti-Fairy counterpart of Wanda.
Recurring
[edit]- Jentel Hawkins as Angela Wells,[8] Hazel's mother.
- Asante Jones as:
- Marcus Wells,[9] Hazel's father.
- Not Timmy Turner, a middle-aged man shown working various jobs throughout Dimmadelphia. His appearance is a homage to Timmy Turner, and was confirmed to not be the actual Timmy by showrunner Lindsay Katai.[10] Timmy Turner was voiced by Tara Strong in the original series.

He is an antagonist to Hazel until the episode "A New Dev-elopment", in which they become friends. At the end of the episode "Lost and Founder's Day", after their friendship is strained following his father's deceit, Dev receives a fairy godparent of his own, the now grown-up Poof (who now goes by Peri).

- Periwinkle "Peri" (formerly known as Poof), Dev's fairy godfather and the now grown-up son of Cosmo and Wanda. He was voiced by Tara Strong in the original series. His name was changed from "Poof" to "Peri" because the former is a derogatory slur for gay men in the United Kingdom.[16]

Hazel has managed to make her one-millionth wish, thus allowing her one rule-free wish, but before she can make it, she finds Dev and Irep taking over Fairy World. All fairies lose their magic and are imprisoned, as the power chip on the Big Wand is replaced to favor Anti-Fairies. Fairies are also made known to all humans, with kids making unlimited rule-free wishes and creating chaos. To make things worse, without the ability to use their magic, fairies are starting to suffer from magical build-up, a deadly condition fairies experience should they stop granting wishes for a long period of time. Hazel then gathers Antony, Winn, and Jasmine to fight against the Anti-Fairies. Dev finds his father still ignores him after what he achieved; after being reminded of the care Peri had given him since they first met, as well as the realization that his actions would end up killing the one being who truly cared for him, Dev returns the original power chip, which Hazel timely places back to avoid the death of their fairies. Fairy World is restored and all humans forget about the reveal, with Dev willingly losing Peri and his memory of fairies as punishment for taking over Fairy World. Afterward, Hazel decides her rule-free wish is for Antony, Winn, and Jasmine to keep all their memories. |
