Re: Box Tops - Neon Rainbow, UK chart placing.

[edit]

Hi, I have noticed that my correction has been removed re: the chart placing of "Neon Rainbow", by The Box Tops in the UK Charts.

Neon Rainbow failed to chart in the UK Charts and I did give two references to confirm that the track did not chart at all in the UK charts.

I am therefore quite suprised and shocked that my correction has been removed and reverted back to the previous incorrect information that the track peaked at #2 in the UK charts.

Please correct this information, as it is currently incorrect.

Wikipedia is a public site and information can be corrected by anyone, especially if that person can produce accurate references.

If you can show that in fact the song did reach #2 in the UK charts with references to confirm, I will be most certainly happy with that, but I have given two references to show that the song failed to chart at all in the UK charts.

Even in the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles book, it is confirmed as not charting at all in the UK.

I will contact Wikipedia with a dispute, if the information you have given regarding the track "Neon Rainbow" is not corrected, as I have shown with references that the particular track in question did in fact not chart in the UK. Butdavid (talk) 02:03, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How can there be misleading sources on this issue. It was either on the charts or not. And why would it be in the guiness book of world records?Millertime246 (talk) 02:08, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The "Guinness Book Of World Records", is a completely separate book to the "Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles", which was the official recognised book (now passed onto Virgin),on UK chart statistics. Butdavid (talk) 02:16, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am simply correcting incorrect information, and "Neon Rainbow" did in fact NOT chart at all in the UK, and that is absolute fact! Butdavid (talk) 02:23, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to refer you to the following Wikipedia Policies and Guidelines: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Policies_and_guidelines and Wikipedia's: Five pillars: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Five_pillars. I as much as yourself wish to help make Wikipedia as accurate as can be and I have endeavoured to check my sources and am assured that the chart statistic for "Neon Rainbow", peaking at #2 in the UK charts is totally inaccurate. In fact The Box Tops have never peaked higher than #5 in the UK singles charts and that was with the song "The Letter".

I would ask politely that you check again for yourself regarding the song "Neon Rainbow" by The Box Tops and verify for yourself whether it did peak at #2 in the UK charts. If you can find reputable and official statistics that can confirm this, then add those references to the page, as I had done. My references came from "Chart Stats" and "everyHit.com" and I have also checked these two sources with the "Guiness Book of British Hit Singles." This book uses the charts published by the New Musical Express from the date of the very first chart published in the UK, 14 November 1952, until the appearance of the first UK Top 50 in what was then Record Retailer, in March 1960. The Top 50 later in 1969 was compiled for Record Retailer and the BBC by the "British Market Research Bureau." The Top 75 began in 1978 and in 1983 the chart was taken over by Gallup and as from the 1990's it was described as The British Record Industry Charts copyright Social Surveys (GallupPoll)Ltd.

Please at least make the effort to show accurate statistics and correct any information if found to be false ie the case of "Neon Rainbow" by The Box Tops, which did not peak at #2 in the UK charts and did not even reach the Top 50, which would have classed it as a hit at that time back in 1967.

Your article apart from that inaccuracy appears to be well written. Butdavid (talk) 12:33, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RfC

[edit]

If anyone should come looking for a RfC that is shown as recently listed then please note that I have just reverted the request, which comes from a user who has been forum shopping the issue for many months and across a vast range of venues. I've left them a note, as per my edit summary shown in the diff. - Sitush (talk) 05:46, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Walsh and Stewart

[edit]

It looks to me as though some time in 2020, Barry Walsh left the band, and was replaced on keyboards by Mike Stewart; and someone made a very incomplete attempt to update the article. Is that right? If so, here's what needs to be fixed:

  • the fact should be noted in Return of The Box Tops
  • the timeline should be updated
  • a new lineup block is needed

And, above all, at least one citation! (Barry Walsh seems to indicate that he is still in the band - https://barrywalshmusic.com/news/blog/6070214/memphis-music-hall-of-fame .) Acwilson9 (talk) 18:01, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
