Proposed merge

[edit]

It makes little sense this merge proposal. "History of agri. in China" (which is part of Agriculture in China arrticle) is everything since the birth of Chinese civilization to today. "Hist. of agri in Ppl's Rep of China" is the specific national history of the People's Republic. Hadoooookin 16:50, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

add: People's Republic is post-1949 since the founding of the People's Republic. If the reader doesn't understand then s/he can easily click on the China link and the People's Republic of China link to know the difference. Hadoooookin 16:51, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
add: if anything it would be the other way round, i.e. merge history of prc agriculture into agriculture in china, but its not practical as this article is humongous already. Hadoooookin 16:53, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This entire article seems to be copied from various sources: [1], [2], [3]. Most of this seems to be from the Library of Congress Country Studies, which I suppose is legal to copy from, but that's the reason this article seems to huge and text-heavy, with rather inaccessible wording. johnpseudo 17:01, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 1950's section and The Great Famine

[edit]

The 1950's section doesn't address the central role that poor government policies played in creating the Great Famine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.128.171.2 (talk) 13:34, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opium production

[edit]

Should opium production be included? https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/14672715.1976.10404414 "For over a century, millions of Chinese had been sacrificed to the opium poppy to satisfy the imperial ambitions of the Western powers, and then to support the rising power of provincial warlords who financed entire armies out of opium revenues. Peasants forced to grow the poppies, as well as the addicts, were the victims." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aufumy (talkcontribs) 02:12, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

bad time figure

[edit]

"For 4,000 years China has been a nation of farmers." is incorrect. We know that agriculture had been going on in china for much longer than that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.77.16.87 (talk) 23:21, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
