Fight Against Coercive Tactics Network → FACTNet – Universally known by the acronym FACTNet, and never by its underlying meaning. Grorp (talk) 06:00, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Support. This Ngram shows it to be currently close, but FACTNet did enjoy more popularity during the last decade. 〜 Festucalex • talk 08:06, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Past tense and official website
[edit]The first sentence of the article refers to the FACTNet organization in the past tense (using "was"), but does not explain when it became defunct or why it no longer exists. The website FACTNet.org currently appears to be the website of a nonprofit organization about "Online Education on Global Warming and Social Justice Issues", with an address on Casino Drive in Laughlin, Nevada, which says it was founded in 1993, although it is not completely clear to me whether it is a continuation of the same organization or not. Is that a different organization?
I found this forum post that says it was written by Lawrence Wollersheim in late 2014, saying the organization had an "evolving mission" and would no longer operate its discussion forums. I also found two comments here on the factnetglobal.org website (the current redirect target of FACTNet.org) from approximately three years ago here that say the comments are from "LAWRENCE WOLLERSHEIM". One of those comments says people should use "Way Back Machine on the intenet" to find the prior material of FACTNet.org. It is signed "Factnet staff". The other one says "Have no idea who these people are." and is signed "The Job One team". I don't understand that one. At first I thought it meant he does not know who is operating that website.
However, Factnetglobal.org leads to several different websites. They seem to consist mostly of blog posts by Wollersheim, mostly about global warming, with very little mention of religion and no mention of Scientology.

- @BarrelProof: I added a History section which shows the 'end' of the FACTnet as it was originally envisioned, and that the Global stuff was Wollersheim's next evolution under the FACTnet brand name, but new domain name and new logo.
- I thought the factnet.org website had been mirrored into/within some of the other anti-cult websites, but I haven't been able to find it. Based on Wollersheim's 2020 comment, it's possible he never 'gave' the website files to anyone else to mirror and simply left it up to others to get them from the Wayback Machine. If I encounter a mirror of the website in the future, I'll circle back around and mention it here in an External links section.
- "Job One" appears to be Wollersheim's brand. He seems to have a habit of signing his comments with the brand/organization name.
- I will also be updating the Lawrence Wollersheim article. Grorp (talk) 01:15, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
