Developing countries

[edit]

I've never seen it in reliable sources or reliable medical sources, but plenty of anecdotal evidence contradicts the statement that bedbugs are not "a particular problem" in developing countries. Many, many travelers will vouch that this is not true at all of some (most?) developing countries that have thriving tourist industries. There were some mysterious deaths of tourists in Chiang Mai, Thailand a year or two ago that were blamed on overzealous use of pesticides due to a bedbug infestation.

Anyone with RS on bedbugs in developing countries, please contribute! AADM3 (talk) 15:28, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, the 'not a particular problem in the developing world' statement also contradicts this, from the summary: "Previous to this they were common in the developing world..." So, when there's some evidence, one way or the other, please also remove the contradiction. WikiAlto (talk) 05:59, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I took the liberty of removing the "Developing countries", and renamed the "Developed World" to "Worldwide". The "Citation Needed" tag was added in 2015, and over the past 8 years no one ever bothered to expand and/or source it. --Hagnat (talk) 19:06, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Illogical statement about the effect of DDT

[edit]

"The fall in bed bug populations after the 1930s in the developed world is believed to be partly due to the usage of DDT to kill cockroaches,[6] which are a natural predator of the bed bug."

If a natural predator of bed bugs was killed, then the population of bed bugs should have risen, not fallen. I don't know what the truth is about this, but I don't think that this sentence can be correct.

I'm not an expert on wikipedia but this article seems quite weak, in general. WikiAlto (talk) 06:05, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
