Shivangi Joshi is an Indian actress known for her work on Hindi television. One of the highest-paid television actresses in India,[1] Joshi is widely recognised for portraying Naira Singhania Goenka in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. She is a recipient of several accolades including one ITA Awards, and three Gold Awards.[2]
Joshi's other notable works include portraying Aayat Haider in Beintehaa, Poonam Thakur in Begusarai and Anandi Chaturvedi in Balika Vadhu 2. In 2022, she participated in Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 and finished in 12th place. She last appeared as Aradhana Sahni in Barsatein – Mausam Pyaar Ka.
Early life
Joshi was born in Pune, Maharashtra. She did her schooling in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.[3]
Career
Early roles (2013–2016)
Joshi made her television debut in 2013 with Zee TV's Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi. Subsequently, she went on to play Aayat Haider in Beintehaa. In 2014, she appeared as Vishy in Love by Chance opposite Ayush Mehra.
She later played Poonam Thakur in Begusarai opposite Vishal Aditya Singh.[4] The show proved to be a turning point in her career. Her performance as Poonam earned her a nomination at Indian Telly Award for Fresh New Face - Female. In 2016, she first appeared as Meera in Season 4 of Yeh Hai Aashiqui and then as Jyoti in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya.
Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (2016–2021)
In 2016, she began portraying Naira Singhania Goenka in StarPlus's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,[5] making her a household name. Her chemistry with Mohsin Khan was highly appreciated by the audience and established her as a leading actress in Indian television. For her role as Naira, Joshi received numerous accolades and nominations including the ITA Award for Best Actress Popular, Gold Award for Best Actress in a Lead Role, Iconic Gold Award for Popular Choice and Kalakar Award for Best Actress. In January 2021, her character was killed off, but Joshi continued to be part of the show, portraying a look-alike character, Sirat Shekhawat Goenka.[6]
In 2020, she was about to make her debut at the Cannes Film Festival with the film Love X Society,[7] but due to the coronavirus, the film was later released in the OTT platform.[8]
From 2021 to 2022, she appeared as Anandi Bhujaariya in Colors TV's Balika Vadhu 2 opposite Randeep Rai.[9]
She has also featured in various music videos including "Aadatein", "Baarish" and "Teri Ada" with Mohsin Khan, "Kismat Teri", "Aashiqui", "O Dilbar Yaara" with Shaheer Sheikh and "Humnava" with Stebin Ben.[10]
Further work (2022–present)
In 2022, she participated in the stunt-based reality TV show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12, which was filmed in Cape Town and finished at 12th place.[11][12]
In February 2023, she was seen in Jab We Matched as Prachi.[13] In March, she made a brief appearance in Bekaboo as Rajpari Devlakha opposite Zain Imam.[14] From July 2023, she portrayed Aradhna Sahni opposite Kushal Tandon and Simba Nagpal in Sony Entertainment Television's Barsatein – Mausam Pyaar Ka until the show went off-air in February 2024.[15] The show earned her wider recognition and praises.[16] Joshi received ITA Award for Best Actress Popular and Best Actress Jury nominations for her performance.[17]
Personal life
In 2023, she met Kushal Tandon on the sets of their show Barsatein. The two have since been in a relationship.[18]
Other work
Joshi is the Youth ambassador of Khushii NGO, which is run by cricketer Kapil Dev, to support the children for their Holistic Development.[19] She was also part of ‘Fight PCOS’ awareness campaign by Pristyn Care.[20]

Post Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Joshi has established her among the leading and highest-paid actresses of the Hindi television.[21] In 2017, for her performance as Naira, The Indian Express placed her at tenth position in its "Top 10 television actresses" list.[22]
In UK-based newspaper Eastern Eye's List of 50 Sexiest Asian Women, she ranked 5th in 2018,[23] while she ranked 7th in 2019.[24] In Eastern Eye's Top 50 Asian celebrities she ranked 26th in 2020.[25] In 2020, Eastern Eye also featured her in their dynamic dozen for the decade list.[26] She was also ranked in Eastern Eye's Top 30 under 30 Global Asian Stars List of 2022.[27]
In 2018, Times ranked her 5th in the Top 10 Popular Actress in Television.[28] In The Times of India's 20 Most Desirable Women on Indian Television List, she ranked 7th in 2018, 8th in 2019 and ranked 9th in 2020.[29][30][31] She is also one of the most followed television actress on Instagram.[32]
In 2022, she was felicitated with Garhwal Post Silver Jubilee Award by the Governor of Maharashtra, for her contribution in Indian Television.[33]
