Natalie Marie Murray (née, LaRue; born December 28, 1983) is an American singer and songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. She gained recognition as part of the band LaRue, which she formed with her brother Phillip LaRue. Together, they released four studio albums. In addition to her work with her brother, Murray has also released an EP as a solo artist.

Early life

[edit]

Murray is the daughter of Paul William LaRue and Carolynn Marie LaRue (née, Nesbitt). As well as her elder brother Phillip, she also has two younger twin sisters.

Career

[edit]

Natalie started singing in church choirs at an early age. At the age of 11, she and her brother wrote their first song. When she was 14, she and Phillip were signed as a duo to Reunion Records under the Provident Music Group. Their debut album, LaRue, was released in 2000 and contained 11 original tracks they had co-written.

In 2001, the siblings released a second album of their songs, Transparent. The songs had new themes and a rock-influenced sound, from the alternative/pop "Jaded" about changing relationships, to the electro ballad "Fallen For You" being a love song, to "Brianna's Song" written about their sister who had cerebral palsy.

In 2002, they released their third album, Reaching. Songs like "OK to Cry", about grieving amidst hope and "Summertime", about longing for a soul mate as well as addressing teen issues.

Personal life

[edit]

In 2003, Natalie LaRue married Rob Murray, a performer from South Africa whom she had met at a music festival the previous year. That same year, they welcomed their first son, Noah, followed by three daughters: Ella, Viola, and Adia. Also in 2003, Natalie and her brother Phillip ended their musical partnership, bringing their collaboration as the band LaRue to a close.

Return to music

[edit]

In 2012, after several years as a full-time parent, Natalie recorded and released the EP Even Now, produced by Don Chaffer from Waterdeep.[1]
