editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Albanian *pait- (“gown, cloak”), a derivation with the suffix -kë. Cognate with Gothic 𐍀𐌰𐌹𐌳𐌰 (paida, “tunic, shirt”) and Ancient Greek βαίτη (baítē). A loanword from Gothic is also phonetically possible. Orel considers it a derivation from petë, reconstructing Proto-Albanian *patika.[1]
