Proposed deletion of Geographic Society in Hamburg

edit

The article Geographic Society in Hamburg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No claim to notability or even significance. No sources listed. None found on search. Sources on de.wiki page (which also doesn't make a claim to significance) are all primary, nothing that can be used to support a claim of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC(talk) 09:05, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

West Suffolk District Council

edit

West Suffolk District is probably the most appropriate title for this per WP:UKDISTRICTS as its normal for the council to redirect to the district not the other way round. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:09, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I see now you have created 2 articles which have roughly the same content, per Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about districts#Local authorities we should generally only have 1 article unless like Isles of Scilly or Plymouth the district its self is combined with another entity, are you OK with swapping West Suffolk District Council to West Suffolk District Council titles as the former has longer history and then just redirect "West Suffolk District Council" to "West Suffolk District"? Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:45, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

West Suffolk District Council Election apportionment diagram 2022
Thanks for your support. I shall be doing some more work today so that WSDC details the composition of the council as per a suitable Election apportionment diagram. I was thrown by the discovery that WSDC could not be simply moved to WSD as that already existed as a redirect page. This is in line with having a different article for Suffolk County Council and Suffolk
I got quite a bit done today.Leutha (talk) 13:26, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure we need a separate article for the district council since unlike county councils there isn't usually much to say about the council that doesn't directly apply to the district but I will request history moving since the council article since it was about the district until the split. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:27, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I think as the consequences of the Lyons Inquiry into Local government get operationalised through the locality budgets used in Suffolk, there will be plenty to say.Leutha (talk) 22:42, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Babruysk Station moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Babruysk Station, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Ships built on the Orwell

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Ships built on the Orwell indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". District council articles

edit

While as I noted there is probably little point in having West Suffolk District Council separate from West Suffolk District (per WP:UKDISTRICTS) when the district is combined with a settlement such as Harlow it probably makes sense to have a separate article for the district council namely Harlow District Council. There are 7 districts in England where the district is combined with the settlement but there is no separate article for the council namely Crawley Borough Council, Gosport Borough Council, Hastings Borough Council, City of Lincoln Council, Tamworth Borough Council, Woking Borough Council and Worcester City Council. These article would likely be useful to create unlike councils for districts that only exists as districts or where like Colchester the district is already split from the settlement. I have started a draft at Hastings Borough Council. Its possible for Worcester an article should be created on the district instead as its not all unparished. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:09, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that, @Crouch, Swale. I will read your thoughts carefully. However in the meantime it has prompted me to update the Ipswich Borough Council page, which needs a new seat plan and adjustment following the Tory whip being removed from one of their councillors.Leutha (talk) 07:13, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The councillors and seat plan should probably be added to Hastings, I didn't add some of the data because I'm not that familiar with how the elections etc work. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:27, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Listed buildings images

edit

At Grade I listed buildings in Ipswich the only one without an image is 1025070. I was looking on Google Street View last night at it and wasn't sure if I was looking at the right building. Do you know if we have any images of it on Commons so that we can have a full house there. Also there are a few others at Grade I listed buildings in Suffolk like Otley Hall and Gifford's Hall with no images. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:53, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that, @Crouch, Swale. I found photo for the building. I have been thinking about Isaac Lord and the building as to whether either is notable. Alfred Sizer, also associated with building, was a Mayor of Ipswich, but I am not sure of his notability. If the building proves notable, it maybe useful to mention Sizer and Lord in that article, without a Wikipedia page being needed. I'll see if I can upload some more pictures. I'll also see if I can find some historic images of other Grade I listed buildings in Suffolk, but that may take a while.Leutha (talk) 11:12, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Given the Ipswich one doesn't even have a name I'd be less sure but the likes of Otley Hall will likely be notable. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:14, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think the problem with 1025070 is more that Historic England website did not put a name to the building. However the name I would be inclined to use is the Isaac Lord Complex] which appears in a research paper they put out. This mentions the oldest timber dating back to the first half of the fifteenth century. There are also a couple of paintings here by Willaim George Merrick (1857-1935) which are in the public domain and were painted in 1924. Nice pump from 1802! Leutha (talk) 16:15, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK so it seems to be several buildings (as the listing suggests) I was thinking it was the house just after Briarbank if heading towards Woodbridge. Yes indeed it actually may merit an article then. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:17, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have had a look at Otley Hall, and agree it warrants an article, but also see Giffords Hall, Stoke-by-Nayland which does have an article and images.Leutha (talk) 10:22, 28 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Gifford's Hall in Wickhambrook, West Suffolk (1235864 at TL7708353842) not Giffords Hall in Stoke-by-Nayland, Babergh (1283138) at TM0180837432. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:01, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, you are quite right, @Crouch, Swale. I had a chance to visit the library today and did a bit more for Otley and started the Wickhambrook Giiford's Hall.Leutha (talk) 23:15, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, its a bit surprising we didn't have an article on Otley Hall. Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:10, 3 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thankyou for the images for the Ipswich building, I have added the image to Grade I listed buildings in Ipswich. I have also started Draft:Isaacs on the Quay, since it seems like the grade I building is part of Isaacs we might as well just have 1 article for the pub its self and the surrounding buildings. Proposed deletion of Caulker family of Sierra Leone

edit

The article Caulker family of Sierra Leone has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No notability even attempted to be attributed to the family.

Speedy deletion nomination of Roland G. Usher, Junior

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Roland G. Usher, Junior requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Gibson Lucas. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:06, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I am not quite sure why you came to think I was using cut and paste. The most likely explanation is that I had the editing window open, – including previous edits – when another editor moved the original page without leaving a redirect. Thus when I came to save my edit the page was opened as if anew.Leutha (talk) 11:03, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Charnocks

edit

Hello! I recently create an article about Harry Charnock, the relative of Clement and James. I found a book where James is called a brother of Clement and uncle of Harry:

Russian: Из духовного завещания великобританского подданного Джеймса Чарнока, оставленного им после смерти в мае 1899 года, можно узнать, в каком родстве ему приходились другие Чарноки. Климентий, Василий, Джон и Эдуард были его родные братья, [...] его племянницей была Магия Чарнок, а племянниками Андрей, Яков и Вилли Чарноки..

In Keith Baker's Fathers of football Clement and Harry called brothers. Can you add this information to articles about Charnocks in enwiki because I'm not confident enough in writing in English? Илья Яковлев (talk) 16:44, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
