I absolutely despise talkpage templates. Please don't use them here. If you do use one, by all the gods, sign it so it archives and put it in its own section! |
I prefer to keep both sides of my discussions together. If you leave me a message here, I will reply here. But if I left a note on your talk page, feel free to reply there or here, as I'm watching your page for a bit. |

WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
editSignups open for The Core Contest
editThe Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—will take place this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is £300 of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". Signups are open now. Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24.
If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list.
WikiCup 2023 September newsletter
editThe fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
- Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
- Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
- Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

FYI for the watchlist
editWouldn’t mind you taking a peek at William Robinson Brown and watchlisting it. Need extra eyes, per it being put up for Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 17, 2025. I think it’s in pretty good shape, having lived in obscurity all these years, but that could change now that it’s on the radar. Montanabw(talk) 20:26, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – December 2024
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2024).
Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.
Palestine-Israel articles 5 updates
editYou are receiving this message because you are on the update list for Palestine-Israel articles 5. The drafters note that the scope of the case was somewhat unclear, and clarify that the scope is The interaction of named parties in the WP:PIA topic area and examination of the WP:AE process that led to two referrals to WP:ARCA
. Because this was unclear, two changes are being made:
First, the Committee will accept submissions for new parties for the next three days, until 23:59, 10 December 2024 (UTC). Anyone who wishes to suggest a party to the case may do so by creating a new section on the evidence talk page, providing a reason with WP:DIFFS as to why the user should be added, and notifying the user. After the three-day period ends, no further submission of parties will be considered except in exceptional circumstances. Because the Committee only hears disputes that have failed to be resolved by the usual means, proposed parties should have been recently taken to AE/AN/ANI, and either not sanctioned, or incompletely sanctioned. If a proposed party has not been taken to AE/AN/ANI, evidence is needed as to why such an attempt would have been ineffective.
Second, the evidence phase has been extended by a week, and will now close at 23:59, 21 December 2024 (UTC). For the Arbitration Committee, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:20, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

The expert
editThey self-report expertise at many things. Proof meet pudding. Is this actually a NOTHERE situation, even though they've been contributing as long as you and I have? BusterD (talk) 12:22, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- I am so exasperated that I don't think I trust myself to judge whether they are NOTHERE or not. I'm scared to look at their other contributions, I suspect it's all over some of the minor nobles articles. Ealdgyth (talk) 13:06, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- It's worse, but way outside your normal wheelhouse (clear COI editing on New Zealand exercise mogul stuff). Look at the user's deleted edits to take it all in at a glance. For a while I was researching how many admins have told the user to sign their talk page edits. It's a rather long and distinguished group, including yourself. The editing behavior is very much what you've been experiencing. Keep yourself (and your animals) warm and dry. We are having sunshine for the moment, but I only live a couple of hours south of you in Chicagoland. The snow was coming at us sideways while I was out with my pooches this morning. BusterD (talk) 19:13, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- We block people for refusing to sign on talk, right? I'm sure I've seen that done at one point. BusterD (talk) 19:16, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

- The latest replies are ... not replies to anything that has been pointed out. I just wanna beat my head on my desk. We block for not engaging at all on talk - not sure if we block without ANI for replying on talk but not to the questions asked/concerns raised...
- Yeah, we are getting big flakes coming down ... sideways ... up here. I'm set - trough heaters double checked, troughs full, hay at full for all animals, wood pile is stocked up, I have food and stuff so I can sit inside and watch the cold outside. (Animals all have shelter and the older ponies have turnout blankets too...the goats are trying to tunnel through their round bale but their fat bellies are making issues....)
