Clean up
editSo Useddenim, Secondarywaltz and I were having a discussion about this template, all along the theme of 'cleaning it up'. Some concerns raised include a) the phantom tunnel at Queen, and b) the extra arrow east of Sheppard-Yonge. I believe both of these are unnecessary, and I'll let Useddenim and Secondarywaltz chime in with their opinions. I also wanted to raise the differentiation of stations with off-street platforms. This bothers me, I think it is unnecessary detail but it also seems a bit more debatable than the other two items. I'd like to ask for everyone's thoughts. - You’re probably right about removing the stub tunnel from Queen. (As I recall, it only runs the length of the two fare-collection areas—but it’s been close to 40 years since I was last in there.) I’m not sure why you want to remove the (
CONT
) arrow from the Sheppard Line. All of the other connecting/crossing lines are indicated similarly.
The reason I specifically denoted stations with off-street platforms was because they are substantially different and have a larger surface “footprint” than ones without. - I agree about removing the tunnel at Queen. Since this diagram shows the subway "service", the left arrow at Sheppard should be removed. Similarly the extra crossover tracks on the Bloor Danforth line at St. George are more confusing than helpful since they might be construed as being part of the route. Showing the intermediate Bay station would better. This diagram should help users, with very little insider knowledge, follow the route of the subway. Although I admire the skill in their creation and installation, the multitude of icons having subtle different meanings is not very helful to the uninitiated. For clarity, I think we only need to show active, inactive and accessible icons. The major station at Bloor-Yonge could perhaps be illustrated like Spadina and St. George, to show two platforms. - I would like to see somebody produce a diagram that properly shows the interchange tracks between the University and Bloor lines. Here it is inadequate - and misleading because the difference in shades of blue is so slight. Secondarywaltz (talk) 17:11, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- To go along with removing the interchange tracks, St. George could be converted into a symbol like Bloor-Yonge. In fact, it could significantly shorten the midtown section of the line. Line 1 RDT
editHey. So I've been working to tweak {{Yonge-University Line Map}}, and a proposed revision is in my sandbox. Proposed elements include:
- Doing away with streetcar illustrations. Why do we show the 509/510/512 and not any others? Now only shows elements part of the existing and proposed Toronto rapid transit system.
- Eliminating the transfer track at Line 2, wikilinks to Bay, and arrows. The kink between St. George and Spadina is now on Line 1, much like {{Bloor-Danforth Line Map}}.
- I adjusted the alignment of Dupont, I may do away with this though and keep existing.
- Stations on Line 5.
- Kink at Downsview Park, and addition of GO Barrie line.
- Addition of Highway 7 Rapidway at VMC Station.

- 509/510/512 lines are included because their platforms are an integral part of the YUS line stations;
- there's no cross-platform interchange between St. George and Spadina;
- Why add the Eglinton Line stations when you removed Bay?
- The kink at Downsview Park just adds unnecessary width to the template.
- The only streetcar routes shown as lines are those which connect with platforms in subway stations and run in a dedicated r-o-w. Bay station is part of the history, but the connecting track is not part of any current route and should be detailed in the station article. There is no need for irrelevant stations on the Eglinton LRT. Showing LRT/BRT projects not even started is misleading. Since this diagram is about the route of the subway, I would suggest taking out the overload of bus and streetcar icons, which would gain some width. Those connection details are outlined in each station article. The Bloor line should be shown going straight across and the Spadina section jogging there. I think the use of a large number of different illegible icons for stations is just hallucinogenic fancruft. Showing whether a station is accessible or not should be enough. - I can incorporate the 509/510/512 lines back in.
- There is no cross-platform between St. George and Spadina, this is illustrating the walkway at Spadina between Line 1 and 2.
- I have not removed the Bay icon, I have just eliminated wikilinks and arrows to it (along with the connecting track). I would either advocate that it stays as is or the icons for both are eliminated.
- The kink at Downsview helps illustrate the north-south Barrie line connection, I'd like to see that stay.
- I am amenable towards eliminating bus and streetcar icons, but would like to hear more consensus.

TTC Bus icons

Too much whitespace
editThere seems to be unnecessary whitespace between the station names and the transit icons on the left side of the routemap. This is not the case on the right side and I can not seem to find what is causing this. Is it possible that this could be fixed? -BLAixx 00:15, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
New connection from Wilson Yard to subway tunnel south of Sheppard West station
editHey User:Blaixx - I think you understand this formatting here better than I. The diagram doesn't seem to represent the new tunnel they added from Wilson Yard into the subway tunnel just south of Sheppard West (formerly Downsview) station during the recent TYSSE construction. (you can see the new portal and track in Google Earth, but Google Maps doesn't have recent enough imagery - but here's a reference to the construction noting TTC is building a tunnel connecting Downsview Station to TTC Wilson Yard. All that to say, I think that should be added to the diagram, but I don't understand the coding enough to do it. Thoughts? Perhaps User:Secondarywaltz and User:Useddenim have thoughts on this as well. Nfitz (talk) 18:20, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
- So if I'm understanding correctly, Wilson yard has its own tunnel to the north and the tracks merge with the main line underground, south of Sheppard West station? –BLAIXX 20:48, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
- Pretty much - ... if you are sitting on the west (passenger-side) of the train heading south out of Sheppard West (formerly Downsview), and you've been able to see that new tunnel appear over the last few years. Though it's taken forever to complete the track. You can see the course of the new tunnel clearly in the May 22, 2015 Google Earth imagery with the track appearing complete only in the 2017 imagery; some of the earlier constructed alignment is visible on the 2011 City of Toronto imagery. Single track in the photos, and you can see in the tunnel it connects to the southbound track - though presumably there's a crossover somewhere between there and the station.
