Help?

edit

I am looking for someone who speaks Arabic that can lend some assistance to me. As you can see from the Governorates of Saudi Arabia article, I have only been able to find a map of the governorates for the Riyadh emirate. I do not speak Arabic. Can someone who does speak Arabic assist me with finding maps of the other emirates so I may complete the mapping for Saudi Arabia? There are various links for the official emirate sites from the various articles. Thank you! Rarelibra (talk) 17:31, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Where is the original maps ?  A M M A R  02:25, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ammar, here are some of the emirate websites:

If you can go to these and find a map of the governorates, I would greatly appreciate it. Or do some kind of search in Arabic for keywords of "Saudi Arabia", "governorate", "map" and let me know what you find. Thanks! Rarelibra (talk) 14:12, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Naming

I wanted to post this yesterday, but User:BrownHairedGirl decided to block me - any evidence to why that should be justified missing. Anyway:

Massive disruption by User:BrownHairedGirl

edit

All region articles are now in a state, as if a vandal had run through. See this. And s/he doesn't even seem to bother to fix this. Androoox (talk) 09:20, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Androox, the history is set out on your talk page. You were warned to revert your out-of-process categorisations or be blocked, but you chose not to do. You had not left edit summaries detailing which edits had recategorised, I used rollback, as I had warned you. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:50, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Disagree If anything WP:BRD was served. You were bold, You were reverted, you were bold again, you were blocked, and you are not discussing. BrownHairedGirl is an administrator, and based on the end runs around the process I'm seeing, I have no problem with renaming this section to "Massive disruption by Androoox" as that's more algned with the facts of the situation. Hasteur (talk) 12:45, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
@User:Hasteur - what you write is libel. Androoox (talk) 03:53, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Najd and Hejaz labelled as regions

edit

User:BrownHairedGirl decided to call Najd and Hijaz "Region" [7]. I oppose that change. Androoox (talk) 04:07, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Androoox, I made no such decision. As I explained on your talk page, You did not use edit summaries to identify which edit had recategorised, so I rolled back all your latest edits. If you had reverted your own recategorisation, I would not have needed to take action; if you had used an edit summary to identify your recategorisation edits, I could have reverted only that edit. It was your choice not to do so, and the consequences are of your own choosing.
Misrepresenting my actions will not help your case. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 04:20, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reorganization?

edit

Question. Were the regions reorganised or something? I see various maps that show the Asir, Najran, and Eastern province boundaries as fairly different.--Expertseeker90 (talk) 15:36, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wrong Term

edit

The term PROVINCE (مقاطعة) is not used in Saudi Arabia. Only REGION (منطقة) is used both colloquially and administratively. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 22:14, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

عمر خالد 8888, it was used from 1932 until 1980.--SharabSalam (talk) 22:35, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, The term region (منطقة) is currently in use while the term PROVINCE (مقاطعة) has never been used in Saudi Arabia.

All the articles about other Saudi regions and cities use the term region (منطقة) and only this article and the Eastern Province article contradict that. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 22:54, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

عمر خالد 8888, did you see what the source says? [8] see the section "change history" in the source.--SharabSalam (talk) 23:22, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, And what about you. Didn't you see what the source says? [9] LOOK to the section "primary subdivision" in the source. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 08:54, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
عمر خالد 8888, The article says

...in 1932 until 1980, Saudi Arabia was divided into six (initially five) administrative-territorial entities

It says was divided not is divided. You said "term PROVINCE (مقاطعة) has never been used in Saudi Arabia." According to the source it was used in Saudi Arabia.-SharabSalam (talk) 09:11, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, Yes it was divided into six entities, BUT the source DID NOT say that these entities called Provinces. Today the primary subdivisions ARE called REGIONS, and that is why we have to change the term to REGION because The article says

Saudi Arabia is divided into thirteen manaţiq (sing. minţaqah: regions or emirates)

عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 09:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi guys, I saw your discussion, and I think the term province is not used in other articles. Maybe we should change it to Region in order to prevent any contradiction. King David 1999 (talk) 09:13, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi King David 1999, welcome to Wikipedia. The term is not used in Saudi Arabia but it was used in Saudi Arabia according to the source. Does any of you have a source that says it wasnt used in Saudi Arabia?--SharabSalam (talk) 09:26, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi King David 1999, Again welcome to Wikipedia. you think also that we should remove the term province and replace it with region. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 09:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

عمر خالد 8888, be honest, is King Daivid 1999, your other account? Using sockpuppets is not acceptable in Wikipedia and you still have a chance to disclose that King Daivid is your other account. Checkusers are able to see IP address and other data and tell if its your account or not and if they found it was yours, they will block you forever and not allow you to create an account again. So if you were unaware of this then, please tell the truth and you will probably be exempted from the sanction. If you are not using a sockpuppet then please forgive me because your latest comment only relied on David's comment.--SharabSalam (talk) 10:08, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, I think you are pretty confused. I don't know the other user. If you want to check my IP address, then you can. I want you to be sure that I don't violet any of Wikipedia policies. King David 1999 (talk) 10:36, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, You are trying to personalize this discussion. I see this as a kind of attack on me, and an attempt to blackmail me. This bad attempt to shift the subject of this discussion has failed. This time I will ignore all of this, and I will not escalate this matter unless you keep personalizing the discussion. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 12:09, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
King David 1999, Don't worry. Not everyone can kick you out of Wikipedia. Believe me, I faced a lot of people like him. Checkusers will find that both of us are Innocent. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 12:09, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
عمر خالد 8888, King David 1999 please forgive me and forget what I said and lets move on. The article says that the Saudi has used the term province in a period of time. You said it was never used. Here is an Arabic source that mentions the Eastern Province, and here it mentions all the provinces that the Saudi used. Do you have a source that contradicts that?--SharabSalam (talk) 12:37, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, OK. I hope we will continue respecting each other and talk from an academic viewpoint. I think you are right that the term Province had been used before the Saudi Government changed to the term Region. I prefer to use the term Region because it is currently in use. As I said before, you should look to [10], and you will find that the source says

...in 1932 until 1980, Saudi Arabia was divided into six (initially five) administrative-territorial entities

which means the term Province no longer in use. Then the article says

Saudi Arabia is divided into thirteen manaţiq (sing. minţaqah: regions or emirates)

which means the term Region is the right one, and should be used now. عمر خالد 8888 (talk) 13:50, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
SharabSalam, never mind mate.every makes mistake.as you said, lets go on.Maybe we should stop thinking about what was used in the p past, and move to the present.King David 1999 (talk) 21:32, 24 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

– Per the discussion at Talk:Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia#Requested move 6 September 2020, titles of administrative divisions of Saudi Arabia are inconsistent, with some useing "Region" and others using "Province"; the latter appears to be the form more commonly in use by the Saudi government and people. Comment I also moved Al-Jawf Province, Al-Qassim Province and Al-Bahah Province from "region" to "province" citing this discussion. There's still inconsistency in the field, but that's better now than it was before. No such user (talk) 15:02, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Why is the article still at Mecca Region if this discussion says that it should be at Mecca Province? --Khajidha (talk) 14:07, 22 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. Cheers! BD2412 T 01:12, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

confusion on "emirates"

edit

In the introduction: "officially the Emirates of the Provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".

This is incorrect. The emirate is the governor's office of the province, not the province itself. It's a specific body of government, not an regional division.

In the same way that "the governorship of the state of California" isn't equivalent to "the state of California", the emirate is not equivalent to the province. High surv (talk) 14:53, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
