Maldonaldo is a marine who accompanies Laura Roslin and Gaius Baltar to the rebel Cylon basestar (TRS: "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?").

Maldonaldo was among the marines who participated in the mutiny led by Felix Gaeta. One of his first acts was to escort Tom Zarek to Margaret Edmondson's Raptor. With Allan Nowart (and the collusion of Diana Seelix), he subsequently brutally assaults Samuel Anders and brings him to Galactica's Cylon brig, and then is one of the marines that enters CIC when Gaeta orders it. Maldonaldo begins opening fire, killing Stewart Jaffee—who protects Admiral William Adama from being shot.

Maldonaldo later dies when he and Nowart escort Adama and Saul Tigh to the brig. Admiral Adama accused him of having a "big mouth," and after Maldonaldo struggles with Saul Tigh, Adama takes Nowart's assault rifle and shoots Maldonaldo, killing him (TRS: "The Oath").
