Black Heron is a major antagonist in the 2017 series DuckTales, serving as a minor antagonist in Season 1 and Season 2 and one of the secondary antagonists of Season 3.
She was an agent and co-founder of the international criminal organization F.O.W.L. along with Bradford Buzzard.
History[]
Before Season 1[]
Black Heron is a spy working for the criminal organization F.O.W.L. In the 1960s, she was sent to London to get the recipe for an ancient potion, the Gummi Berry Juice, that F.O.W.L. wanted to utilize for creating super-powered bouncy soldiers. Although she obtained the recipe, she was stopped by Agent 22 and her partner, freelance agent Scrooge McDuck, and in the incident, she lost her right arm, which she replaced with a prosthetic arm.
Season 1[]
Fifty years later, Black Heron breaks into McDuck Manor and kidnaps Mrs. Beakley to have her revenge and get the recipe for the potion. Webby Vanderquack accompanies Scrooge to rescue her grandmother. Webby defeats Black Heron, swiping the rest of the potion in the scuffle, who falls into the sea to her apparent death, leaving only her bionic arm behind.
Season 2[]
In "Moonvasion!", she is revealed to have survived her fall, though she is still missing her arm. She attends a meeting of several top F.O.W.L. operatives.
Season 3[]
In "Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!", Black Heron uses the Third Eye Diamond to develop the Intelli-Ray. Having used it to increase the intelligence of several lab animals, who later become the Rescue Rangers, she seeks to modify the device to decrease Scrooge’s intelligence and so eliminate him as a threat. She explains this to fellow operative Steelbeak, whom she freed from a prison in St. Canard and fitted with his namesake prosthesis. Upon learning that the Duck family is visiting Funso's Fun Zone, under which their base is located, she sends Steelbeak to get rid of them.
Heron later tests the altered ray on two Eggheads, successfully decreasing their intelligence. When Steelbeak reports that he has imprisoned two of Scrooge’s companions, she is furious, knowing that Scrooge will inevitably seek them out. She belittles her comrade’s intelligence, and Steelbeak responds by turning the Intelli-Ray against her. Heron is left a blathering idiot, and Steelbeak attempts to carry out a plan of his own. After he fails, Bradford restores Heron’s intelligence but berates both of them.
In "Let's Get Dangerous!", Black Heron responds to Bradford’s distress call. Much to his chagrin, she arrives in a helicopter bearing the F.O.W.L. logo, which is seen by Scrooge. When Heron asks if he would have preferred her to come in an unmarked helicopter, Bradford angrily responds yes before she flies him away.
In "The Split Sword of Swanstantine!", Black Heron confronts Scrooge and his companions in Istanbird. While her comrades Steelbeak, Gandra Dee, and John D. Rockerduck attempt to claim the pieces of the Sword of Swanstantine before Scrooge’s allies do, Heron engages Scrooge in a running battle. She eventually forces Scrooge to surrender the sword pieces, only for the reassembled weapon to fly back to Scrooge. Scrooge explains that the sword will only serve those with inner strength, and Heron and her comrades flee rather than face the now mystically armored heroes.
In "The Last Adventure!", Black Heron is a mother figure to May and June, otherwise known as Project 87. In the end, Bradford threw her into the Solego Vortex, killing her for good. As she was thrown in, Heron acknowledged that Bradford had finally became a villain and smiled.
Personality[]
Black Heron is a charming yet amoral middle-aged woman who wants to take over the world. She is also manipulative, being able to get Bradford to be evil like her.
Abilities[]
- Combat skills: She was able to put up a fight with Mrs. Beakley and Scrooge McDuck.
- Intellect: Mrs. Beakley describes her as "a real bad egg", versed in chemistry, robotics, and martial arts. She demonstrates all of these skills, brewing the Gummi Berry Juice and building a bionic arm for herself
Appearance[]
Black Heron is a beautiful tall and thin anthropomorphic black heron, with black feathers and an orange beak. She usually wears a red dress and white go-go boots, and she wears her black hair in a beehive.
In the present day, her right arm is replaced by a cybernetic limb equipped with a number of gadgets, such as a laser and gas pellet launcher. Even though she's over seventy years old, she has shown relatively few signs of old age, except for a few facial wrinkles.
Relationships[]
Mrs. Beakley[]
Otherwise known as Agent 22, is one of Black Heron's oldest nemeses, as they have had at least three encounters together during Beakley's time as a S.H.U.S.H. agent, the first being in "The First Adventure!" where Beakley brings her in. Beakley says she tried to bomb Mount Rushmore but Heron corrects her saying she rather tried to carb her own face into it claiming it would have been an improvement. As explained in "From the Confidential Casefiles of Agent 22!" Heron's plot to create a bouncing serum for F.O.W.L. was thwarted many years ago, and the destruction of the laboratory created by Beakley and Scrooge McDuck resulted in her entire right arm to be lost. As an act of vengeance and a way to finish the formula, Heron broke into McDuck Manor many years later and kidnapped Beakley in order to imprison her at her now rebuilt laboratory. Scrooge and her granddaughter Webby Vanderquack attempted to save her, but Heron's threat at Webby's life ultimately forced her to give up the serum formula. As Beakley gave in Black Heron hinted that she might still hurt Webby using the words "the child was a bit of an x-factor but she will the cherry on the sweet revenge". Nevertheless, Beakley and the others managed to escape and stop Heron once again by using the bouncing serum against her, as Heron once again fled with the loss of her bionic arm. Black Heron hate Beakley and even state she would put off her world conquest to get revenge on her. In The Last Adventure! she was the one who ordered an interrogation room being made ready for Beakley which she took great pleasure in. After that she brought the captured Beakley to the top of the library to wait for the other captives and Bradford.
Bradford Buzzard[]
Bradford meet Black Heron in the 1960's as she was brought in custody of S.H.U.S.H. by Bentina Beakley. Bradford had just been rejected by the director of S.H.U.S.H. Ludwig Von Drake in his request to take over the world. This made him turn to Heron presenting his idea as O.W.L. Organization of World Larceny but Black Heron thought it sounded boring and suggested F for Fiendish. Blackford reluctantly accepted as she wouldn't go along with it if he didn't. This made the two of them the founders of F.O.W.L.. This prompted Bradford to release Black Heron and pretend he was the one who found out. He then continued her as accountant but provided Heron with information along the way. Sometimes after that Bentina took over as director and discovered that they had a mole. She called on her oldest ally Scrooge which forced him to take his niece and nephew with him in The First Adventure!. Bradford and Heron didn't start out to well as Bradford hated the wild side of Heron and Heron found Bradford a bit stuffed up. The two makes a reversed mirror of how Beakley and Scrooge first meet and started out. During the events Bradford was revealed to very angry that Heron had exposed his secret identity to Scrooge but he managed to avoid it by using the Papyrus of Binding to erase their memory. Bradford could therefore continue to become Scrooge CFO. The two of them started out on even footing but it was clear that Bradford outgrew her and became her superior as he ordered her around and beretted her in Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!. Black Heron wanted from the start to turn Bradford into a villain. Something he insisted he was not through all the years she knew him. In The Last Adventure! she complimented Bradford on his outfit and said she always knew she would make a villain out of him. Shortly after that he murdered her but rather than being scared she was happy over how she made him a true villain.
Scrooge McDuck[]
Scrooge was Beakley's partner many years ago as seen in From the Confidential Casefiles of Agent 22!. When he first meet Black Heron she instantly disliked him as he laughed at her when she said she would make an army of super soldiers who would bounce to the highest peake of corruption. He laughed asking if the power of the aincentint creatures was bouncing. Irritated she asked the captured agent 22 if he was with her which she replied "regreterly". She was also angry over that he interrupted her film during her declaration of harmfull intend. In anger she attacked him making him request the captured agent 22 to help him. Many years later she kidnap Beakley and Scrooge follow. When Scrooge was asked how he defeated her she reveal herself answered he didn't and manage to capture him as well. While she mostly focused on Beakley she seemed to be of the opinion that he would have been next when she was done taking her revevenge on agent 22. In The Split Sword of Swanstantine! she fights it out to with him but wins even as she threatnes his family. Scrooge gives her what she wants but end up claiming the sword as he possesed inner strenght while Black Heron is only surface with no substance. Black Heron also got outsmarted by him in The First Adventure! where he makes the papyrus disappear until the hair of Scrooge McDuck can find it. This way he protects the two children his Nephew, Donald Duck and His niece Della Duck she captured as she threatened to hurt them. For these reasons she hates him all though it appears she has much more history with agent 22. During The Last Adventure! she shows no regret of forcing Scrooge into sign of the right to ever adventure again and would most likely have enjoyed seing him signing the contract had she been given the chance.
Webby Wanderquack[]
Black Heron created a little girl which is a clone of Scrooge named Project 87 which was shortly after stolen by Bentina Beakley who named the girl Webby. Black Heron is technicly Webby's mother but she show no interest in the child or any form of warmth towards her. In From the Confidential Casefiles of Agent 22! she mearly refered to Webby as a child who was a bit of an x-factor. She also threatened Webby to make Beakley give up the formula. With the words "She will be the cheary on the sweet revenge" she hints that she will hurt Webby to get to Beakley. However Webby soon escape and drink the potion asking "What are you child?" indicating that she has no idea that she is standing in front of her own former clone. Black Heron also stole a feather from Webby in The Split Sword of Swanstantine! once more demonstrating that Webby don't mean anything to her. The cold nature from Heron don't bother Webby which is unaware that is her creator she is standing in front off. Webby is shown to not care for Black Heron even after it is revealed that she is her creator in The Last Adventure!.
May[]
May was created as part of Project 87 and she appeared very desperate to know why they were created. She sees Black Heron as her mother since she created her. She is devestaded when she sees Black Heron being murdered and realise she was simply created as a means to get the Papyrus of Binding and then being destroyed when it was achived. Despite the affection she show for Black Heron there is nothing that indicates that Black Heron watch her as nothing more than an experiment. In The Last Adventure! she warns them about not failing her as Bradford won't accept another failure.
June[]
June was created as part of Project 87 and she appeared very eager to know why they were created. She refer to Black Heron as mommy in front of the captured Duck/McDuck family. Black Heron never acknowledge her back. She is devestaded when she sees Black Heron being murdered and realise she was simply created as a means to get the Papyrus of Binding and then being destroyed when it was achived. Which she points out they weren't even good enough to do this. Despite the affection she show for Black Heron there is nothing that indicates that Black Heron watch her as nothing more than an experiment. In The Last Adventure! she warns them about not failing her as Bradford won't accept another failure.
