"What's wrong? Has your confidence finally dropped? You know your run can't last forever, not when I'm on guard. It's not much fun being hunted down, is it, Majin Buu? Being hunted down just the way you hunted down our friends! Does it hurt?!" |
Spirit Sword (スピリッツソード Supirittsu Sōdo)[15][16][13][17][14][18][19] is an Energy Blade used by Vegito in his Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue forms.
Overview[]
Vegito channels energy into his hand to form a golden ki blade. This blade can be used like any other sword, or instantly extended to skewer an unsuspecting opponent at long range, making it ideal for both close-quarters and distance combat.
Usage[]
Super Saiyan Vegito uses this attack twice during his battle against Super Buu (w/ Gohan absorbed). Vegito catches Super Buu by impaling him through the stomach, but Super Buu manages to manipulate his body off of the sword and regenerate himself.[20] Vegito uses the Spirit Sword again to impale Super Buu through his mouth, but the Majin regenerates again.[21]
"You think you're the only one who can manage that little trick?" |
Upon re-appearing in Dragon Ball Super, Vegito, in his Super Saiyan Blue form, uses this attack in his match with Fused Zamasu. In the anime, after Vegito is knocked down and plays possum, drawing Fused Zamasu towards him, the rogue Kai attempts to finish Vegito with his Fierce God Slicer. Vegito counters by stabbing him straight through the chest with the Spirit Sword, mocking Zamasu, as he had a similar technique. Despite being semi-immortal and feeling considerable pain, Fused Zamasu survived the assault and broke free from the impalement.[22]
In the manga, it was shown against Fused Zamasu that this technique can also be used for close-range combat and perform slashing strikes as well, with Vegito using it to slice of Fused Zamasu's arms.[23]
During the Tournament of Power in the manga, Vegeta also uses this technique to anchor himself back to the arena after Kale tried to eliminate him.[10]
During the Universe Creation Saga, both Vegito and Xeno Vegito use their Spirit Swords in their respective fights with Fu. Gogeta also uses a Spirit Sword to combat the Crimson-Masked Saiyan.[11]

In the Butōden series, it is named Beam Sword Slash (フラッシュソードアタック Furasshu Sōdo Atakku, lit. Flash Sword Attack).
In the Budokai series and Dragon Ball Heroes, it is named Spirit Sword.
In Buu's Fury, it is named Energy Sword (エネルギー手刀 ) where it is chargeable and Vegito swings it around him after releasing it.
In the Budokai Tenkaichi series and Raging Blast series, it is named Beam Sword Slash (ビームソードスラッシュ Bīmu Sōdo Surasshu). In Budokai Tenkaichi and Budokai Tenkaichi 2, it is Super Vegito's Ultimate Blast. In Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and the Raging Blast series, it is one of his Blast 2.
In Shin Budokai, Vegito can use this move in his base form and when he does, he fires it more like an energy blast than a sword slash.
In Jump Ultimate Stars, it is named Vegito Sword (ベジットソード Bejitto Sōdo).
In Xenoverse, it is named Spirit Sword where it is Vegito's Ultimate Skill in his first skill set. It can be obtained by the Future Warrior as a reward in Parallel Quest 41: "Frieza's Nightmare Returns!". When performed the user extends the blade out to stab the opponent then delivers a clockwise slash at the opponent. However, if the blade fails to stab the opponent (due to evading or being out of the blade's range) then the attack ends without the slash. Also, though the stab momentarily captures the opponent they are briefly released during the clockwise slash, potentially allowing the opponent to escape the follow-up slash. Unlike other depictions, the energy of the blade is blue in Xenoverse and despite the blade being made of ki, it is classified as a Strike Skill thus its attack power is boosted by the user's Strike Super stat instead of Ki Blast Supers stat.
In Dokkan Battle, it is Vegito's Super Attack.
In Dragon Ball Fusions, Vegito's Spirit Sword appears under then name Vegito Sword and has a stronger variation called Super Vegito Sword. There is a variation called Spirit Blade which appears as a learnable Special Move for several characters such as Racyoh, Goku Black, and Fused Zamasu. There is also a stronger variant of Spirit Blade called Super Spirit Blade which functions identical to Spirit Blade but with greater power.
In Xenoverse 2, Spirit Sword returns as one of Vegito's Ultimate Skills which he can use in all three of his skill sets. It can be obtained by the Future Warrior as a reward in Expert Mission 17: "In the Realm of the Gods: Goku".
"I don't want to see, a trace of you left!" |
In Legends, it is named Spirit Sword and is the Ultimate Move Arts for Legends Limited Super Vegito (DBL29-04S). If used to KO the final enemy, after lifting the opponent up with Spirit Sword, Super Vegito will create a Spirit Sword in each hand and then combine them into a two-handed Spirit Excalibur before dropping it on his opponent, blowing them away into nothingness as his Legendary Finish. Additionally, there is also a rush attack variant called Spirt Sword Rush which appears as the Special Move Arts for Vegito (DBL22-08S) in both his base and Super Vegito forms.
In FighterZ, Vegito Blue employs the Spirit Sword in several of his normal Special attacks as well as an assist attack, replacing the Ki Blast utilized by most character in the game. His variation Spirit Excalibur also appears as one of his super moves as well.
In World Mission, it can also be learned by any type of Hero Avatar after the fourth wish to Super Shenron to "Teach me a Super Attack!". In addition to Spirit Sword, Spirit Excalibur can be learned by any type of Hero Avatar after the eighteenth wish to Super Shenron to "Teach me a Super Attack!", while the thirty-sixth wish to Super Shenron to "Teach me a Super Attack!" allows any type of Hero Avatar to learn Final Excalibur, while the thirty-ninth wish to Super Shenron to "Teach me a Super Attack!" allows any type of Hero Avatar to learn Spirit Saber. Additionally Note can learn Spirit Sword at Bond Lvl 40.
In Kakarot, it is named Spirit Sword where it is one of Vegito's Super Skills, appearing as a fast lunging, multi-hitting barrage of sword strikes.
Trivia[]
- The Spirit Sword is the first Energy Blade technique and first variation of Energy Blade to appear in the Dragon Ball Z manga/anime as the Salza Blade only appeared in the film Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge which was the first iteration of an Energy Blade technique to appear in any medium, due to the film coming out long before the Fusion Saga when Vegito uses the Spirit Sword technique in the manga/anime.
- In the Yu Yu Hakusho series, Kazuma Kuwabara uses a similar technique also called Spirit Sword (霊剣 Reiken).
- In the Bleach series, Bazz-B uses a very similar technique of the Spirit Sword called Burner Finger 4. Which he uses as a spirit sword-like katana out of reishi fire from scorching heat through his epithet, H - "The Heat".
