Dragon Ball Z: V.R.V.S. (ドラゴンボールZ V.R.V.S. Doragon Bōru Zetto Bī Ā Bī Esu), or Dragon Ball Z: Virtual Reality Versus, is a fighting game released in 1994 for the Sega System 32 arcade platform by Sega and Banpresto.
Overview[]
Although the game is in 2D, it uses camera angles positioned behind the characters to create a 3D-like experience.
The game is controlled with a joystick and 3 buttons, though a deluxe edition of the game features motion sensors that allow the player to move his or her body to control the character in the game. Once gameplay begins, the player fights through the entire roster of characters in a set order. Defeating each fighter earns a Dragon Ball.
After defeating four fighters, the fifth battle pits the player's character against a black-and-white carbon copy of themselves who mimics his every move. Once defeated, he reveals himself to be the final boss: an original character named Majin Ozotto. Defeating Ozotto earns the last Dragon Ball and whatever wish the player's character desires.
Endings[]
Each character has a specific ending they obtain after beating Ozotto. It is a wish to Shenron.
- Goku wishes for lots of food.
- Gohan wishes that his mother would forget about him studying for a while, and he goes to play with Icarus.
- Vegeta wishes to have "the world beneath his feet", causing Shenron to mistakenly make him a giant.
- Piccolo wishes to fight the strongest person in the world, and Shenron sets him up against Mr. Satan.
- Future Trunks wishes for his father to be alive in his timeline.
Timeline placement[]
The events of the game happen during the nine days wait for the Cell Games, as the Dragon Team all have their Cell Games Saga appearance.

Portage[]
Dragon Ball Z: V.R.V.S. was supposed to be ported to the 3DO, but it was never released because of the poor sales of the console.
The portage would have been a modified version of Dragon Ball Z: V.R.V.S. featuring Cell. It was shown in a convention in Japan in 1994 and reported in Weekly Shōnen Jump #11 and in a French magazine, revealing some shots showcasing kids playing it.
This game would have been called Dragon Ball Z: Cell To Kogeki Da according to the French magazine, while Dragon Ball Z: 3DO De Seru To Taiketsuda! (ドラゴンボールZ 3D0でセルと対決だ! Doragon Bōru Zetto Surī Dī Jiarō De Seru to Taiketsuda!, lit. Dragon Ball Z: The Confrontation and I, Cell, in 3D0!) can be read on the convention photo.
