For the Disney parks, he provided the voice of the Father in the World's Fair and Disneyland versions of Carousel of Progress, the Grandpa and pre-show film narrator in the current version of the same show at Walt Disney World, and the dog that sang "Who Shot the Hole in My Sombrero" in America Sings.

Outside of Disney, Allen wrote and recorded many songs, a number of which were featured in his own Western films. He was cast as Dr. Bill Baxter for the half-hour weekly syndicated series Frontier Doctor, narrated the 1973 Hanna-Barbera animated film Charlotte's Web, and wrote and sang the theme song for the early 1980s sitcom Best of the West.

In 1996, Allen was honored as a Disney Legend and died 1999, fifteen days before his 79th birthday.
