- “They say the Ol' Gray Mare, she ain't what she used to be! But don't you believe it!”
- ―America Sings soundtrack book, page 8
The Ol' Gray Mare, as named as such by herself, is a character from the America Sings attraction at Disneyland.
Background[]
The Ol' Gray Mare is an anthropomorphic female horse, hence her name. She appeared in the song which she is named after where the Barber Shop Quartet describe that she is not as what she used to be, despite her name. She is shown to ride on an old-fashion red car decorated with a horn on it.
Development history[]
The Ol' Gray Mare was created in the former America Sings attraction at Disneyland in the Tomorrowland section where she was placed in the "Gay Nineties" sequence where she sang the song which became her namesake, which opened on June 29, 1974. However, America Sings closed on April 10, 1988 in order to retheme the attraction to Innoventions, with the rabbit family and most of the animatronics moved to Splash Mountain at the Critter Country section, which opened on July 17, 1989. However, the Ol' Gray Mare's animatronic was not moved to Splash Mountain for unknown reasons.
Role in the attraction[]
The Ol' Gray Mare appeared in the third act, "The Gay Nineties", in the former America Sings attraction during the musical number "The Old Gray Mare". Throughout the song, she would occasionally say her own name while the Barber Shop Quartet sang along. At the end of the song, she then said, "Won't you believe it, sonny?" just before the sequence looped to the Bird in a Gilded Cage singing her part.

Trivia[]
- Aside from Sam and Ollie, the Ol' Gray Mare is one of the few characters from the former America Sings attraction whose animatronic was not moved to Splash Mountain after the attraction closed, but she did appeared in some concept arts for the attraction.
