Milo's Mother is a major character featured in Disney's 2011 co-produced animated film Mars Needs Moms.
Background[]
Personality[]
When she was first introduced, Milo's mother became firm with her son - often telling him to do the things he needs to do in an uptight manner. Prior to being abducted by Martians, she is shown to have a dislike on her son not doing the discipline he is supposed to do - such as the case of him eating broccoli, which Milo refuses to do during dinner time. As the Martians watch over a heated argument between Milo and his mother, they heard Milo "wishing" that he did not have a mother, which made the Martians think that she is the perfect mother for them to abduct into the Memory Extraction Machine. After Milo and his mother both reconcile in Mars and the Martians show of what a true Martian family should be, she even became less strict and more gentle with him after reconciling with her son.
Role in the film[]
Milo's mother is first seen tasking her son to take out the trash. After Milo follows her orders, they go back inside as Milo's mother starts cleaning up the house with her vacuum. When Milo talks to his father, he tells his son that he will be unable to return home to see his wife, due to a cancelled flight. Milo became eager to watch a zombie-themed movie on television, but his mother only allows him to watch it after finishing the broccoli during dinner time. However, Milo refuses to finish the broccoli and then decides to "finish" it by feeding the broccoli to his pet cat, causing it to vomit. She later hears Milo who was grounded for refusing to eat broccoli, sending him to bed with no TV. During an argument, Milo's mother becomes furious that her life would be better if she didn't keep on giving reminders to her son, only for her son to berate her, telling her that his life would be better without his mother disciplining him. This, however, hurt his mother's feelings for what her son said, just before she leaves Milo's room.
That night, Milo's mother was abducted by Martians putting her into their ship so they can extract her mother's memories to raise their hatchlings via memory extraction machine, where she is placed while still asleep. Realizing this, Milo plans to save her mother who was abducted by aliens, resulting him to go on an adventure on Mars.
Although mentioned during Milo's adventures on Mars, his mother did not appear until Milo arrives at the area where the Martians are using the Memory Extraction Machine to extract her memories like they did with Gribble's mother in the past. Milo tries to save her life, but it is found out that she is too dozy, having no idea of what is going on, mistaking the noises in Mars as cartoons from television, causing the Memory Extraction Machine to miss a shot and disable the Nanny-bots instead, much to the Supervisor's shock, resulting in a commotion onto the Martians. To his mother's frustration, she realizes that she is on Mars, feeling shocked about this. Milo, however, calms her down and gives her an oxygen helmet so she can breathe outside. As they exit, Milo and his mother enter the ship where Ki is present with sixty seconds before takeoff. She later sees the Martians attacking and the Supervisor arrives and threatens to kill Milo with a laser gun.
However, Milo realizes that his mother has no oxygen, just as the other Martians watch him via screen. Gribble becomes aware of this and finds the helmet his mother used to wear so that he and Milo can save her, just before Milo and his mother reconcile and hug with each other. They suddenly realize Ki is on the rescue, smashing the Extraction Machine. Just before Milo and his mother could escape, the Supervisor threatens to kill them, only to be defended by Ki, who tells the Martians of what a true Martian family should be as seen in the ancient ruins, resulting in the Supervisor to be arrested for her tyranny and crimes. After a reconciliation, Milo and his mother return back home on Earth just before Gribble and Ki leave to return to Mars.
As Milo and his mother return home and embrace each other, she became gentle with him just before Milo's father enters. Milo's parents reunite with each other just before Milo blasts a trash bag using a weapon he got from Mars to "take out" the trash.
