Camp Minnie-Mickey was a themed land at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It was themed to the woodlands of North America, specifically the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, and was home to Festival of the Lion King and several character meet-and-greet opportunities. The land closed on January 6, 2014 to make way for Pandora: The World of Avatar.
History[]
Camp Minnie Mickey was built on a small portion of the site that was to host Beastly Kingdom, which was benched as a potential "Phase 2" project while the construction team shifted their focus on getting DinoLand U.S.A. ready for opening day. With the attraction line-up for opening day looking too small however, a low budget "temporary" land along the lines of Mickey's Toontown Fair was put into development and primarily headed by the Entertainment division and outside developers instead of the main Imagineering team. While initially expected to last only a few years, the success of Festival of the Lion King gave the land an extended life until it was decided to move the show to Africa and make room for Pandora in 2014. The displaced character meet-and-greets would be spread throughout the park, with Adventurers Outpost replacing Beastly Bazaar on Discovery Island serving as a home for Mickey and Minnie, with Donald and Goofy moving to DinoLand U.S.A.
