Way down yonder in Briar Patch[]
Br'er Rabbit was out-running his two nemeses, Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, until he accidentally bumped into Br'er Lion, and came up with an idea to trick Br'er Lion, so he wouldn't get captured by Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear. He then shouted to Br'er Lion, saying "Run, Br'er Lion, run! There's a hurricane on its way. You'd better run!". This made Br'er Lion sort of scared, and he asked Br'er Rabbit "I'm too heavy to run, Br'er Rabbit. What am I going to do?". Then Br'er Rabbit told him to lie down to get close to the ground. Then Br'er Lion shook his head saying, "Br'er Rabbit, a hurricane is liable to pick up a little man like you an' blow you from here to Timbuktu an' back. So what's it goin' to do to a big feller like me?".
Then Br'er Rabbit said "Hug a tree, Br'er Lion, hug a tree!" as he shouted to Br'er Lion. Then Br'er Lion holds onto a tree so Br'er Rabbit can tie his hands so that he is attached to the tree. As soon as Br'er Rabbit tied his hands with the rope, Br'er Lion started to realize that he couldn't hear a hurricane coming, and Br'er Rabbit said he couldn't hear it either. Then Br'er Lion asked Br'er Rabbit very politely, because lions can be polite when they want to be: "Then please unloose me, Br'er Rabbit." However, Br'er Rabbit didn't like the idea of a big lion running around loose.
Then Br'er Lion got mad and started bellowing at the top of his voice. And as he was bellowing, up came Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear as they were wondering what was going on. When Br'er Rabbit saw Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, Br'er Rabbit jumped to his feet. He did, and began to talk biggity and strut around Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear. And then, Br'er Fox told Br'er Bear that it was tea-time and the two left, then Br'er Rabbit left Br'er Lion still tied around the tree.
