    The Brandywine School District Transportation Department regularly accepts applications for school bus drivers and bus attendants/aides.  Applications for both positions must be submitted online. Click here for our online application information pagebus drivers

    Bus Driver and Bus Aide Application Information

    · MANDATORY – You must have a checking, savings, or credit union account for direct deposit (required by State law)
    · MANDATORY – Original Social Security Card 
    · Completed online application
    · Never convicted of a drug-related crime
    · Never convicted of a Class A or Class B felony, felony based on causing death, felony sexual offense, or felony against public administration (bribery, etc.)
    · No sentence for any other felony extending into the past 5 years
    · Never convicted of any crime against a child

    FOR DRIVERS ONLY:

    · Completed as part of online application the Transportation - Authorization for Release of Records form
    · Commercial Drivers License – CDL-B (or CDL-A) with Passenger Endorsement. Transportation Office will assist in obtaining proper license and endorsements.
    · If licensed in Delaware less than 5 years, provide driving record from all other state(s) in which you were licensed for the past 5 years
    · If licensed in another state, must hold CDL-B (or CDL-A) with passenger and school bus endorsements in home state. Provide 5 year driving record from home state, complete Delaware school bus driver training (class and on-the-road driving), and meet all other requirements (annual physical, TB tests, drug screening, background check, etc.)

    DELAWARE SCHOOL BUS ENDORSEMENT QUALIFICATIONS (for drivers only)

    · No more than 5 points
    · No DUI suspension, revocation, or disqualification for moving offenses in last 5 years
    · Never convicted of a drug related crime
    · Never convicted of a Class A or Class B felony. Felony based on causing death, felony sexual offense, or felony against public administration (bribery, etc.)
    · No sentence for any other felony extending into the past 5 years
    · Never convicted of any crime against a child

    CDL SELF-STUDY (for drivers only)

    The CDL drivers manual can be obtained from the Brandywine School District Transportation Office or the State of Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (either at one of their facilities or online).     · Study Sections 1 thru 4 and Section 10 in CDL book. Review Section 5 (we do not have air brakes but there may be a question about them on the test). Study the multiple-choice question and answer packets (from the Transportation Office).
    · BEFORE YOU GO TO MOTOR VEHICLE TO TAKE TESTS, GET A CDL TEST FEE WAIVER FROM THE TRANSPORTATION OFFICE. There is NO reimbursement if the applicant pays for the CDL permit.
    · Three DMV Commercial Driver tests are required – General Knowledge, Passenger, and School Bus.

    After you obtain your CDL permit and have received a DMV receipt indicating that you have passed the written School Bus Driver test, submit to the Transportation Department. The Transportation Department will schedule your classroom and on-the-road training, fingerprinting, Child Protection Registry clearance, and pre-employment drug testing.  The Transportation Department will schedule your DMV driving test during your on-the-road training.

    STATE TRAINING (for drivers & aides)

    You will be registered for a two-day class for School Bus Employment and provided location and times.

    PHYSICAL

    FOR DRIVERS: A work physical must be completed (at your initial expense) on the State of Delaware School Bus Driver Physical form. Keep your receipt (full or partial reimbursement for out-of-pocket physical exam fees may be possible after you work for us for 90 days). The original, signed form must be submitted to the Transportation Office. Call the Transportation Office at 762-7181 if you have had a recent USDOT physical.

    FOR AIDES: A completed Bus Attendant/Aide Health Certification is required (no reimbursement is available)

    TB TESTING (for drivers & aides)

    A negative TB test is required within 12 months before your date of hire or within 2 weeks after your date of hire. If you have not had a recent TB test, you can have your doctor do one while performing your physical examination. We will not reimburse you for out-of-pocket expenses for a separate TB test.

    CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK (for drivers & aides)

    The Transportation Office will schedule a fingerprinting appointment with the Delaware State Police at applicant’s expense.
