Lara-El was the wife of Kryptonian scientist Jor-El and the biological mother of Kal-El.
History[]
Lara-El came from a noble family, with her father, Sul-Van, being a member of Krypton's Science Council. Sul-Van was less than supportive of Lara's husband Jor-El's theory of Krypton's impending end. Lara, meanwhile, had complete faith in Jor-El, although that faith was briefly challenged after Brainiac convinced the Council members that Jor-El was mistaken. Eventually, she agreed to send Kal-El away to Earth in a spaceship developed by Jor-El, as his evacuation plan for the entire populace had been dismissed by the Council. When Jor-El suggested that Lara be sent with Kal-El, seeing her grief over losing him, she chose to stay with Jor-El. Soon afterward, as Kal-El's ship disappeared into the sky, Lara, along with Jor-El and all of Krypton, perished in the explosion. Before their death, Jor-El and Lara left a holographic message in Kal-El's ship for him to see after he grew up.
