Superman #194 is an issue of the series Superman (Volume 1) with a cover date of February, 1967. It was published on December 15, 1966.

Synopsis for "The Death of Lois Lane!"

After being exposed to a meteorite made of Red, Green, and Gold Kryptonite, Clark loses his powers and has no memory of being Superman. With Superman gone, Lois marries Clark, and they have a son with superpowers. Lois assumes the powers came from a bottle of super-serum that she'd been storing on her shelf of Superman souvenirs.

Years later, one of Superman's Super-Robots informs Clark that he used to be Superman. Clark resolves to tell Lois the news while they're out for a drive, but suddenly a mysterious force pulls their car into a cave. It turns out to be Lex Luthor's secret lair. Luthor sprays Lois and Clark with truth gas, hoping to learn Superman's secret identity. Lois admits that she never knew Superman's true identity, but Clark reveals that he was the Man of Steel and is now powerless.

Luthor hypnotizes Lois and Clark, forcing them to forget everything they've just said. As they leave the cave, Clark tells Lois that he was Superman. However, Lois is still vulnerable to Luthor's post-hypnotic suggestion, and she pulls a gun on Clark as they're driving. In the commotion, they drive directly toward a cliff. Clark jumps out of the car just in time, but Lois plunges to her death.

Days later, Clark gets a phone call from Perry White, who says Luthor is dead. However, the phone call is actually from Luthor himself, and he tells Clark where to find Luthor's secret cave. After Clark leaves, Luthor breaks into Clark's apartment and reprograms a Super-Robot so that it acts as if it's Clark. Later, Clark Jr. sees his "father" taking a nap. In his sleep, Robot-Clark says he killed Lois out of jealousy.

Luthor then directs Robot-Clark to open a trunk that Luthor planted in Clark's apartment. Inside the trunk, Robot-Clark unveils evidence that Lois was in love with Luthor. When Clark Jr. confronts his "father," Robot-Clark slaps him and then leaves him to die with a chunk of Green Kryptonite.

Robot-Clark then flies to Luthor's cave, and Luthor stores him in one of his many closets. Later, Luthor goes to Clark's apartment and rescues Clark Jr., who is dying from the kryptonite. Luthor takes the boy to his cave and tells him to hide in a closet while he tricks Clark into a confession.

Meanwhile, the real Clark enters the cave, and Luthor convinces him that he has given up his evil ways. He then shows Clark a diorama that depicts Luthor and Lois in love. Next, he turns on a machine that forces Clark to obey Luthor's telepathic commands. In a trance, Clark says he killed Lois. Clark grabs a vaporizer gun and prepares to exact his revenge on Luthor. Suddenly, Clark Jr. jumps out of a closet and hurls his father into a deep pit.

With Clark gone, Luthor admits to Clark Jr. that the whole thing was a hoax. As Luthor is about to finish off Clark Jr. with a piece of Green Kryptonite, Robot-Clark grabs the gun and vaporizes Luthor. Clark Jr. then retrieves his father from the bottom of the pit; Clark Jr. used his super-breath to create a cushion of air so that his father wasn't harmed in the fall.

Robot-Clark is ashamed that he was Luthor's pawn, so he self-destructs. Clark Jr. explains that he reprogrammed the robot when he was hiding in the closet. After they leave the cave, Clark Jr. carves a likeness of Lois on a mountainside as a monument to his mother. Clark then tells his son that he has proved he's ready to become Superboy.

Synopsis for "The Super-Luck of Badge 77"

This story is reprinted from Superman #133.

As his previous report on being a firefighter for a week proved to be popular, Perry White sends Clark Kent on another assignment: Spending a week being a police officer with the Metropolis Police Department. The police chief gives Clark a uniform and badge number 77, a badge that was previously worn by a now retired police officer. When Clark is asked to get a homemade gun out of his safe, it goes off, and the bullet ricochets off him, instead of believing that Clark is really Superman, the chief attributes it to the fact that Badge #77 was the good luck charm of it's previous owner.

As Superman, Clark fixes the gun before resuming his guise of a temporary police officer. Clark then uses the badge to preform super feats and stop criminals, such as a mad bomber and a gang of thugs looking for revenge. When Lois tells Clark about some fur smugglers in town, the two find themselves locked in a freezer containing the stolen furs. Clark then uses Lois's diamond studded broach (with her initials on it) to cover up that he's using his finger nail to carve through a pane of unbreakable glass. After turning over his uniform at the end of his assignment, they all muse about how L.L. upside down could be interpreted as 77, and wonder if it's that lucky a number.
