Possible Futures are alternate timelines set in the future. They may be based on present continuity, but essentially are their own realities, ignoring events that overtake it, such as character deaths.
History
As the DC Universe is constantly active at many points during the Timestream, and there exist many functional ways to travel through it, heroes and supervillains from different eras frequently meet each other outside of normal temporal parameters. This causes a discrepancy with any characters in question from the future, as their entire lives remain unstable and subject only to the actions of those in the present. As such, these futures are frequently fading from existence, and in many instances, those such as Waverider and Monarch have traveled into the past with the hopes of changing their own possible futures. Over the years, the Superheroes and Supervillains of the DCU have met with a large number of possible versions of themselves, sometimes ending in good, and sometimes bad results.
