Mary Worth, alias Bloody Mary, is an enemy to Batwoman as a member of the Gotham-based crime organization, Medusa.

At 13 years old, Mary Worth was supposedly forced to enter a marriage with an adult man who fulfilled the roles of being her husband, father, teacher, and mentor. After Mary suffered a near-fatal miscarriage, she discovered that her husband had a tendency to initiate affairs with other woman. Suffering a psychotic break, Mary murdered a number of women and girls she feared may seduce her husband. The grieving townsfolk discovered her crimes and hanged the murderess in response. Generations later, "Bloody Mary" became an urban legend.[1]

In modern-day Gotham City, Maro Ito, a high-ranking member of the crime syndicate known as Medusa, used his magical abilities to conjure living urban legends to work under Medusa's command. Maro and fellow Medusa member Killer Croc invaded a home wherein three middle-school girls were having a slumber party. Maro channeled the teenagers' belief in Bloody Mary to summon the spirit of Mary Worth in corporeal form. Binding Mary in service to Medusa by citing her true name, Maro allowed Mary to satisfy her bloodlust by killing the three kidnapped girls.[2] Her involvement with Medusa put her at odds with Batwoman.
