Synopsis for Green Lantern: "The Power of the Primitive"
In Hale University, the great football player Bill Barry is called a throwback for his powerful physique and ape-like countenance. He talks with a teacher of his, Professor Perkins, who explains what the remark meant and the nature of the Piltdown man. Barry flees Perkins' house, feeling a terrible savagery building up inside him, but then deciding he likes it. Later, Alan Scott receives a telegram from his old teacher Perkins to come help, while Doiby goes off to visit the doctor because of a stomach ailment. Alan flies to Hale as Green Lantern to get there faster, and finds the gym on fire as he arrives. The hero saves the day by dousing it with a nearby river, only to find discarded gas cans and realize the fire was deliberate.
Green Lantern goes to keep his appointment with Perkins, realizes after knocking he's still in costume, but just rolls with it and tells Perkins he's there on Alan Scott's behalf because superheroes are experts in dealing with unusual situations. Perkins tells him the story about Barry and the discussion about the Piltdown man. Lantern goes looking for Barry and finds him breaking into a butcher's shop to steal raw meat. However before a fight can start, Barry's girlfriend Doris comes running in, pleading with Lantern for help as Barry escapes. The pair spot smoke coming from campus again. Lantern flies them over and smothers the flames with his ring, then finds a gang of hoods on hand. After pummeling them a bit, Lantern gets them to confess they were hired by Perkins to make it seem like Barry was responsible.
Barry hauls Perkins into swampland outside of town but Lantern tracks him there and gets the truth of the story: Perkins was in love with Doris and came up with the whole Piltdown man scheme to get Barry out of the way. Lantern uses his ring to remove Barry's psychosis and turn him back into a healthy young man. Finally getting back home, Lantern finds out the cause of Doiby's affliction was that he was sleepwalking and eating all night, and has to lock the freezer at night from them on.
