Synopsis for Green Lantern: "The Man Who Lost Wednesday"
In the middle of a fight with some thieves at the Carbo Chemical Plant, Green Lantern and Doiby are interrupted by a man named John Square who tries to help, but accidentally sets off an explosion that lets the criminals get away. He begs for the heroes' help, as he has a bizarre predicament: every Tuesday night he goes to sleep, then when he wakes up it's Thursday. They agree to watch over him, since it's Tuesday night, but he leaves the room and disappears. While they're looking for him, the duo later learn the thieves they were battling before used acid stolen from the chemical plant to burn through the vault of a safe-manufacturing company, and steal the master list with all the combinations. This would allow them to rob any of that company's safes with impunity.
Lantern and Doiby go back to Square's house to find him, only to find the thieves there too. Green Lantern gets knocked out when a wooden piano lid falls on his head, and awakens tied up. Square tells the captive heroes he made up that nonsense about losing Wednesday to distract them while his gang stole the list, and leaves, intending to burn down the house with them inside and start a new identity. Green Lantern floods the water pipes with energy from his ring, causing them to burst, douse the flames and give the heroes enough time to escape. That used up the last of its energy, so while Green Lantern hurries home to recharge the ring, Doiby stops by the nearest firehouse to report the incident, and also to sell war bonds to the firefighters. Realizing something startling, he signals Green Lantern and they attack the firefighters together, who are actually John Square and his gang in disguise. Doiby figured out who it was when John Square, not used to his new identity, signed the bond receipt with his original name out of habit.
