The being known as Starro the Conqueror was once a little boy named Cobi who lived peacefully along with his people (specifically his brother Andrez) on the "unremarkable" planet Hatorei.

The Hatorei people lived simple lives and they had few semblances of a developed world but in one respect they were unsurpassed. Once a day the planets inhabitants would congregate in a species-wide telepathic link and open up to each other which made their society the pinnacle of ethics and cultural stability.

However, on a particularly harrowing day, a Starro Motherstar descended on their planet enslaving their civilization including Cobi and Andrez. At that point in time the Star Conquerors were only nomadic predators who wandered conquering planets until the Motherstar landed and birthed a new queen. So the Hatorei slaves served the queen and built a nest for a new queen to be born. On the planet Hatorei, things were different; the link between the people was still existent and it was impossible for the Star Conquerors to completely control the people. The link between the Hatorei was filled with outrage due to their enslavement and the deaths of their people; this outrage loosened the hold of the Star Conquerors on Andrez. So while Cobi worked in the nest, his brother driven by his peoples' outrage entered the nest determined to destroy the Starro hatchlings before a new queen could be born.

Unfortunately, one of the eggs hatched and the hatchling desperate to protect itself used Cobi to defend against his brother's attack and in doing so led Cobi to kill Andrez. Afterward, the force that drove Andrez (the collective outrage of his people) seemed to enter Cobi who then, having been driven mad by that force, ripped the Starro off his face regaining his independence. The hatchling attacked Cobi but to no avail as it leapt it became attached to Cobi's chest and Cobi subsequently destroyed the remaining hatchlings declaring that every Star Conqueror would be his.

Now Starro the Conqueror, he used his control of the Star Conqueror species to begin a series of war of conquests. While he would enslave most foes with Star Conqueror starfish, he would grant some particularly useful opponents larger starfish to wear upon their backs and a place at the head of his armies under him, allowing them free will so long as they turned their talents towards his conquests. As his empire's expansion continued, he was able to draw power from everyone so controlled. Between his mind-controlling Starros, ever-growing strength and his still independently thinking elites, his forces were unstoppable, leading him to gain control of nine galaxies.

Upon his forces reaching the Milky Way, Starro took control of L.E.G.I.O.N.'s robotic forces and uses their widespread galactic influence to further his goals towards dominating the universe.

Powers

  • Hatorei Physiology
    • Psychic Link: A unique trait shared among all Hatorei before they went extinct. Cobi, now known as Starro the Conqueror, bears the sole connection to all of the Star Conquerors through the inverse parasitic connection between himself and his Motherstar.[1]
      • Mother Star Control: Starro can control members of the Star Conqueror species, using their innate talents of mind control to take over his enemies. Additionally, he draws strength from every being controlled, allowing him to draw upon the might of nine galaxies.
        • Reproduction: Starro's Motherstar can asexually generate parasitic clones from it's body and command them to act in accordance with his will. By extension, Starro can also transform ordinary Earth-based starfish into loyal Starro agents.
        • Advanced Longevity: Starro's link to the parasitic Mother Star had greatly extended his lifespan. Being roughly three million years of age, possibly older since the time he'd slain a race of Starfish hunters eons prior.[2]
      • Energy Transference: The collective energies from the trillions of beings stemming across nine galaxies fuels Starro's might. Thus making him physically unansailable in straight forward combat, as well as making him stronger with every new conquest he makes.[3]
        • Superhuman Strength: Starro himself possesses immense strength fueled by those controlled by his Star Conquerors. He possessed the power to hold his own and defeat the mighty Despero, even going so far as to slice the despot's head clean off with a single swing of his ax.
        • Invulnerability: Starro is impervious to most conventional forms of attack.
        • Power Distribution: Through his star conquerors Starro can empower a select few among his forces using the same energies he harvests from trillions to feed himself.[4] He can also use them to restore lost proclivities like Braniac 3's intelligence.[5]

Abilities

Weaknesses

  • Anti-Starfish Toxin: A unique brew, particularly caustic to the Starro breed held on a planet long since razed by the Conqueror himself. A concoction proving to be incredibly debilitating to said parasitic race, causing them to petrify and be rendered in an inert coma like state.[6]
  • Tribulus's Mental Lightning: Lyrl Dox son of Brainiac 2, had altered the abilities of his father's pet giant. Now his psychoactive lightning carried a charge which was lethal to Starro's Star Conqueror spores, the effect being akin to salting a slug in his words.[7]

Equipment

  • Transmatter Portal: Through the genius Lyrl Dox, Starro had access to a working teleportation system which could transport it's user anywhere across space. Even beyond a galaxy spanning energy barrier set up by L.E.G.I.O.N Drones.[8]

Weapons

  • Battle Axe: Starro's main means of offense stems in his use of a war hatchet comprised of unknown metals. The edge of which makes it sharp enough to decapitate the likes of Despero in a single swing.[9]
