Magic is a catch all, or umbrella, term used broadly to describe subjective powers similar to the topic name. For instance, Magic is used to describe any kind of mystical ability. Catch all terms can also be used to denote other powers such as Energy Projection used for any blast powers.

Zatanna Zatara, Mistress of Magic and one of the Sorceress Supremes. A powerful practicioner of magic.

Magic, sometimes also called other names such as Sorcery, Magick, and many others, is a term used to describe mystical ability of some characters to use their ethereal abilities to cast spells, conjure forms of magics and create a large number of other abilities from it. It differs from occultism because these characters have an inherit use of their abilities.

Like their practitioners, magic can come from a diverse range of sources; while all magics requires a source of energy, these can come from internal reserves, mystical beings, alternate dimensions, objects of supernatural origin, the surroundings, or a combination of the mentioned criteria. Many locations on Earth and beyond are full of these energies including Atlantis, Darkworld, Myrra, Gemworld, Stonehenge, Azarath, and many more. Species such as demons, homo magi, and certain demigods also posses innate genetic disposition that enable them to manipulate magic inherently.

Magic comes in all variants, forms, and grants a wide breath of powers and abilities in which vary from individual and their method of practice. Additionally, a common element for magic is it's "price", meaning it's practice isn't without costs. Some associated cost may include a negative lifestyle brought upon it, such as Zatara's constant separation from his beloved daughter, Constantine's brand of magic and affiliation with demonic entities making him predisposed to failures such as losing friends and those closest to him, or incarnations of Doctor Fates inheriting a hefty and overwhelming responsibility as protectors of the universe and beyond. Other costs can be immediate, like Enchantress's powers being brought upon by possession, Sebastian and Fauna Faust's magic being painfully redirected to them at times, or Nick Necro's practice of magic eroding his sanity into obsession.
