Baal is a demon who may or may not have been the god of the same name worshiped by the Canaanites.

History

He was summoned to Earth by the warlock Alieister Creel in modern times. The method Creel used involved a series of ritualistic killings which were investigated by Batman and Etrigan. In the final confrontation with the pair, Baal was defeated and apparently killed.

Baal had survived and was later contacted by Ahriman. Ahriman was gathering a group of deities in an attempt to corrupt Superman. When the attempt failed, Baal was returned to his pantheon.
