- Private Eye (engl. für Privatdetektiv) ist eine Satirezeitschrift, die in London herausgegeben wird. Gründer waren Richard Ingrams, Willie Rushton, Peter Usborne, Christopher Booker und Andrew Osmond nach ihrem Studium. Großteils ist die Zeitschrift hintergründig und eine gewisse Allgemeinbildung erfordernd, was ihre landesweite Popularität nicht verhindert. Typisch sind ihre oft mit Sprechblasen versehenen Titelseiten, vor deren Spott nichts sicher ist, auch z. B. die Trauer um Prinzessin Diana nicht. Private Eye und The Guardian schufen den Paul Foot Award, mit dem investigativer Journalismus ausgezeichnet wird. Preisträger sind Journalisten von Zeitungen jeglicher Stellung, von Regionalzeitungen über Boulevardzeitungen bis hin zur Times. (de)

The publication is widely recognised for its prominent criticism and lampooning of public figures. It is also known for its in-depth investigative journalism into under-reported scandals and cover-ups. Private Eye is Britain's best-selling current affairs magazine, and such is its long-term popularity and impact that many of its recurring in-jokes have entered popular culture in the United Kingdom. The magazine bucks the trend of declining circulation for print media, having recorded its highest ever circulation in the second half of 2016. It is privately owned and highly profitable. With a "deeply conservative resistance to change", it has resisted moves to online content or glossy format: it has always been printed on cheap paper and resembles, in format and content, a comic as much as a serious magazine. Both its satire and investigative journalism have led to numerous libel suits. It is well known for the use of pseudonyms by its contributors, many of whom have been prominent in public life – this even extends to a fictional proprietor, Lord Gnome. (en)

- „Private Eye” – brytyjski opiniotwórczy dwutygodnik satyryczny, poświęcony aktualnym wydarzeniom na świecie i w Wielkiej Brytanii, wytykający postaciom publicznym ich niekompetencję, brak efektywności, korupcję i egoizm. Historia magazynu datuje się od połowy lat 50. XX wieku, kiedy uczniowie Shrewsbury School (założonej w XVI wieku szkoły w Shrewsbury w zachodniej Anglii), Richard Ingrams i Paul Foot wraz z kolegami zaczęli wydawać swoją szkolną gazetkę. Później, kiedy trafili na Uniwersytet Oksfordzki dołączyli do nich inni studenci, z którymi wspólnie redagowali swoje pismo. W tym okresie utrwalił się tytuł czasopisma, a dzięki wsparciu finansowemu właściciela klubu studenckiego studencka gazeta zyskała podstawę do przejścia na profesjonalizm, co nastąpiło w 1961 r. Pierwszym redaktorem naczelnym był jeden z założycieli pisma, Richard Ingrams. W 1986 roku zastąpił go Ian Hislop. „Private Eye” należy do najlepiej sprzedających się czasopism tego typu na rynku brytyjskim: w drugiej połowie roku 2009 sprzedaż magazynu była najlepsza od 1992 r. i wyniosła średnio 210 218 egzemplarzy.
