"Nathan Oliveira, n\u00E9 le 19 d\u00E9cembre 1928 \u00E0 Oakland (Californie) et mort le 13 novembre 2010 \u00E0 Palo Alto (Californie), est un peintre, graveur et sculpteur am\u00E9ricain. Depuis la fin des ann\u00E9es 1950, il a expos\u00E9 dans pr\u00E8s d'une centaine d'expositions individuelles et autant d'expositions de groupe, dans d'importants mus\u00E9es et galeries du monde entier, notamment pendant les expositions annuelles du Whitney Museum of American Art. De la fin des ann\u00E9es 1950 et d\u00E9but des ann\u00E9es 1960, \u00E0 ce jour, il expos\u00E9 un travail en constante \u00E9volution. Il enseigne la peinture durant plusieurs d\u00E9cennies en Californie, d'abord au d\u00E9but des ann\u00E9es 1950 \u00E0 Oakland, puis \u00E0 l'universit\u00E9 Stanford. Nathan Oliveira est consid\u00E9r\u00E9 comme l'un des pionniers du retour au figuratif dans la peinture am\u00E9ricaine, mouvement qui a pris naissance autour de la baie de Californie dans les ann\u00E9es 1950.
