ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

Ebay apparently implemented a new policy that they will not release your funds until 48-72 hours after they receive delivery confirmation?  This has been done under a guise of a “safe marketplace” after 30 years running.  I say this is just eBay making money on overnight lending of the money they are holding…  Based on customer support feeback, apparently they are going to do this to ALL sellers?1

I went from getting my money within 2 days to 7-14 days. International will take 30-60 days. I am stopping ALL international shipping options accordingly. On top of that, any refunds will not be taken from the amount sitting in hold and will hit your backup payment immediately!

This is OUTRAGOUS!!

Thanks for admitting that customer service lied to this seller.

For some......It seems wisdom has been chasing you, but you have always been faster.

So get ready for this.  when you don't have enough funds in your account to issue a refund (becuase everything is sitting on hold), guess what?  Hits your backup account on files (likely a credit card or your bank).

That's the way it now, no different.

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

So EVERYONE in customer service is telling me a lie, and I'm not part of a pilot program to roll this policy out to all sellers?

CS is notorious for often giving inaccurate information. In fact, in post 11@fab_finds4u warned that they tell callers whatever it takes to get them off the phone quickly.

I called customer service again, and they confirmed yet again, this is going to be a global policy for ALL sellers. I just so happened to be lucky that they picked my account to test out this new policy.  They are going to send me an email with details accordingly.

I'm curious if that email ever came.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

Yes, the email came.. and guess what?  They went in a complete circle again, pointing me to the policy page.  Last night, I also received this response:

"We recently reviewed your situation and, based on the additional information, we reinstated your eBay account. We understand that this process may have been a bit cumbersome, but please note that it was a security measure designed to protect you as a seller and the eBay community . We sent you an email on 12 November 2020 titled ‘How you get paid after a sale’ in which we explained that your earnings from sales on eBay are made available for payment within 48 hours after confirmation of delivery of the item. Until then, your funds will show as ‘held.’ This is to ensure that eBay remains a safe marketplace for buyers and sellers."

When I asked them to clarify what they meant by 'reinstated' (as my account was never deactivated), I got the same original canned response the very first time I asked about these blocks with a link to the held payments policy page.

This is SOOOOO frustrating... it's like I'm talking to Dori from Finding Nemo!  I'm going to call them AGAIN and insist on speaking with a Trust and Safety manager, and someone in the US!  The people answering the phone are of very little use and simply delay a response that comes back with pointing to a policy without actually addressing your concern.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

no.. i was told that these holds can/will be used to pay for refunds and shipping labels... based on what is actually occurring in my account - that is a lie.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

But the email said nothing about payment holds for all sellers, right? That's what you said you'd be receiving - info that this would be "a global policy for ALL sellers." By now I expect you realize that's not the case.

Moving on to your account-specific payment hold situation:

Call as many times as you want but you'll be wasting your time. eBay won't change the timeframe of payment holds triggered by risk-assessment just because you call and complain. Let the process play out.

If it's imperative your payouts come more quickly, start offering 2 day shipping service and getting packages out same or next day. Quicker delivery, quicker payments until the restriction/hold is lifted. 🤷

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

Yes, they lied the first 3-4 times about it being a global policy coming out.

I ship my stuff out most of the time the same day.  Bottom line is I'll be holding for my money for a week in the best case scenarios.

I will not give up - I've had the battles before with eBay and you must keep fighting it when it is clear the logic does not make sense. I fully understand the policy and rational, but it being applied to my account make zero sense.  If a person with common sense took 10 minutes to actually look into my account, they would see that the algorithm that hit my account to put this blanket hold on my sales is not correct.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

Thanks alot alberta, now eBay removed my listing I had since 2018 because of your post!  Well at least I know I can get eBay's attention here better than via the customer service route!

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

eBay does not remove listings based on posts in this forum.

More likely someone reading this thread decided to report your listing.

I've pointed out listing violations on this forum and never reported the seller. I prefer to give the seller the chance to correct their own issues. Others not so much.

Don't assume alberta was the cause of your policy violation / listing removal. As far as we know, all she did was try to help you by giving you a heads up and someone else reported your listing.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

right... it was just a coincidence that I had an active posting for 6 years and plenty of sales, and the day after the highlight, the posting is taken down.  Sure,  "eBay does not remove listings based on posts in this forum"  bahahaha!  No, I can assure you, eBay monitors these post and acts accordingly.  I've tested this before and found it it be true and is simple to test for yourself.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

I would NOT be surprised if this is true / becomes true ( ALL SELLERS paid AFTER DELIVERY )

Depop did this recently - Paid AFTER Delivery  (unless you are a "top seller" which has too many strings attached IMO)

so yeah...I absolutely believe this could be true.

it really sucks waiting for payments + they (Depop) make all kinds of excuses for why the payments get delayed so it could be a week, 2 weeks, a month. it's ridiculous. I dread selling long distances since of course it takes longer.

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

No, it was not a coincidence, but your interpretation of what happened is incorrect. eBay would not have looked at your listings based on a post in this forrum.

I already said - someone else reading this discussion reported your listing.

Some people on this forum are quick to report when they see listing violations. It's the action of that anonymous person that reported your listing which put you on eBay's radar.

I've seen numerous discussions where eBay reps joined in and nothing ever happened with the seller's listings even though they were policy violations. It's when other members report that stuff happens.

One seller told me a couple years ago they read this forum all the time, never post, but always report other sellers' listing violations simply because they were bored and annoyed that some of their own listings were hit with policy violations. 🤷

Re: ALL sellers payouts to go on hold

What is abundantly clear in this process is 1) customer tells you bold faced lies and are instructed by management to do so and 2) very little people in the customer service area are able to think critically and rationally to analyze each situation accurately.  They just keep reading a script with zero substance behind many of their responses.

we'll agree to disagree... I am fairly confident eBay is monitoring these posts.  If not, that's not too smart on their side.
