hi my step daughter found this at an estate and asked if I wanted it - I said yes but now trying to figure out exactly what I have. It’s a Friedr. Herder Abr. Sohn butcher knife- at least I assume it’s a butcher knife - it’s about 14 1/4” with a 8 1/2 blade.
done some research and seems like the company has been around since like the 1700s - so trying to figure how to date this - since it’s almost marked Soligen Germany it probably from at least the late 1800s but aside from that I am clueless on this - anybody out there know anything about these knives and knows how to date them
any info would be appreciated
sorry that’s all the pics I have for it at this point don’t have it in my possession yet

Fair question - first with antique / vintage items I find companies aren’t always the best for getting info if there isn’t some kind of part number or code on them which this doesn’t have. Collector’s tend to be more helpful since either they know the item or are intrigued by it and will be more willing to help with info. Second the company went insolvent in the 1990s so my guess is that someone bought the name, which was a very good brand, and started selling knives again but have no real connection to the original company but I will email them if I don’t find the info anywhere else.
