Image scaling request...

Article(s): s:Index:UKSI19810859.pdf as images in Page: content.

Request
Please scale these more appropriately (can SVG do that internally?) with respect to other traffic signs images in the relevant Commons Category and those used in the linked article. Asking here as it's simple task that an experienced user can do rapidly...

Graphist opinion(s)
@ShakespeareFan00, can you be more specific about what’s wrong with the size or proportions? Is it just the nominal pixel dimensions? Yes, with SVGs scaling is usually very easy—it says so right on the tin! But one needs to know what one’s trying to achieve.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 04:41, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is indeed the nominal pixel dimensions, I had drawn these at actual size, whereas the ones from the Traffic Signs Database are based on how they were sized for print reproduction, which are considerably smaller. I was wanting someone to scale these to be more suited to display on screen and print compared to the existing traffic sign images Commons holds.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:33, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Was there any progress on this? Or can it be tagged as stale?ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:50, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done @ShakespeareFan00: The files specified large, fixed, sizes in millimeters via the width and height attributes. I removed those attributes from all the files, so SVG defaults the size to 100% of the container. I do not think any other changes are needed. Glrx (talk) 21:38, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flaspec The source you have provided is not good enough, it's impossible to create anything with quality from that. Would also need someone who can read and write the language (some version of Arabic) written on it and generally you would have to help with feedback and check on drafts. Fix those things and then you can ping me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:37, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Flaspec: The pattern is complex as hell, and we need surely a picture with an higher definition to create a vector version of it. I think I found an high-quality picture of the cetral part ([1]) is it the same flag? Or, you could buy the picture ([2]) and send it to us to trace it. Sette-quattro (talk) 13:09, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Flaspec: @Sette-quattro: from what I get there is a reproduction (click on the "El Salón del Trono" tab), more info here. Here is a version shared by the Twitter account of the municipal museum of Burgos. Veverve (talk) 22:11, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec The source from twitter that Veverve provided looks good and to me it seems as it is the right version. Several of the others are something else. However then we have the question about copyright. The twitter account comes from museum of Burgos what I can see. So before I would consider taking this huge task I would need you to get a written permission according to OTRS. Before you can provide that I will not put in the amount of work needed for this. There is an email adress to the right on that link. So ping me when you have the permission, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:22, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: @Flaspec: I will not be necessary. From what I got from here and here, and especially here, the image shared by the museum is a scan of a 19th-century engraving from the book series Historia general de España desde los tiempos primitivos hasta la muerte de Fernando VII by Modesto Lafuente. With a few hours of research and a bit of luck I found this engraving is in Part 2, Book 1, chapter 12 ("ALFONSO VIII Y ENRIQUE I EN CASTILLA - De 1212 á 1217"). The volume on which this part is will depend on the edition. You can find a good quality scanned version with the engraving here (from here) at PDF page 34. You can also find it here (worse quality). Veverve (talk) 20:17, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Veverve: for all your work and knowledge on this, and you saying it is from an engraving explains why it looks different in colors and lines. But I have two questions.
  1. Is this engraving the same as in all detail as you know?
  2. I don't speak Spanish but when I translate that page it says everything is under copyright. So then we are back to the same situation or what do you say?
@Goran tek-en: Thanks
  1. I have seen many versions of this flag online, I guess there is numerous reproductions since it is a famous flag. Looking at google image with "Banner of Las Navas" in Spanish gives numerous similar yet very different flag. I do not know if the engraving is the same as .
  2. It is a 19th-century engraving, so there is no way it is still under copyright. todocoleccion.net is like Invaluable.com or eBay, it will states "Copyright ©", but there is no way you can copyright something which has fell out of copyright, it is at best a en:Copyfraud. Scans or pictures of 2D objects which fell out of copyright cannot renew the copyright and fall under Template:PD-art and Template:PD-scan. Veverve (talk) 23:10, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again Veverve, it is so difficult with copyright on stuff like this, I don't have deep enough knowledge but when I check your sources I agree with you, so thanks. Will now try to get in contact Flaspec to be able to work on this. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:06, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: @Goran tek-en: Thank you for your response. After searching the website provided by the uploader, I found a direct link with the description here [3]. --Flaspec (talk) 20:42, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Flaspec: I don't understand, that link doesn't provide any image I can work from. This source [4] page 34 is provided by Veverve, is that correct and can I work from that? --Goran tek-en (talk) 20:59, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Flaspec: What you proposed is the same low resolution image as in the beginning. Veverve (talk) 21:18, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Goran tek-en: Yes the image provided by Veverve is correct and has higher resolution indeed. I am ready to assist you if you need any help with the text (old Arabic script). --Flaspec (talk) 21:30, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Request taken by Goran tek-en (talk) 15:55, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flaspec Great.  QuestionThe emblem you first showed is some kind of textil I guess, so it's not 90° in the corners, no straight lines etc. What I will create is an illustration of this emblem so I will work with 90° corners, straight lines etc. Is this fine with you? --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:55, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: Thank you for taking this request. Indeed, I think 90° corners is the correct choise. --Flaspec (talk) 18:03, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec Now I need your feedback before I continue. The drafts are as png but the original I work on is svg.
This is the upper left piece just outside the "circle". Is this look and detail level what you want?
@Goran tek-en: Honestly it looks far better than I expected. --Flaspec (talk) 17:48, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: I like how you fixed the corners (at 90°) without altering the original design. Kudos to you! --Flaspec (talk) 17:57, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec Thanks for feedback. It might be a while before I'm back because there is a lot work to be done.
For the text there are two options but I think a mix will be the best.
  1. I can draw them but some texts are very small so it's hard.
  2. If you can write them here it would be great, mark which is which, if you know a font that works well at wikimedia for svg files and arabic, please tell me. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:39, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: This is medieval script of Arabic (equivalent to Blackletter in Latin, for instance) so the first option is the best in order to preserve authenticity of the emblem (modern font wouldn't do). I noticed that existing flags/emblems belonging to the same era (like the emblem of the Emirate of Granada) also opt for the first option you mentioned. --Flaspec (talk) 19:18, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, according to here, the engraving was made by Magín Pujadas, who has a WCommons category. Veverve (talk) 13:00, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flaspec I just wanted you to know I am working on it. It takes time so don't give up on me. If you think it takes too long, just ping me, thansk. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:33, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Goran tek-en This emblem needs love like everything does. I hope you enjoy working on it, and take your time! --Flaspec (talk) 18:34, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec Now I have drafts that should contain everything but the text parts. Please help me to check I havent missed something so far, thanks.
Goran tek-en I believe the three animals are Barbary Lions as per bodyshape and tail, not horses. Everything else seems perfect to me! --Flaspec (talk) 19:07, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec Whitin the different text areas there is some light stuff on the background like this which is in the top left corner. Do you know if it's supposed to be there? --Goran tek-en (talk) 13:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Goran tek-en These white spots are originally black spots that were removed due to erosion (check out before (text inside blue rectangular) vs after erosion. So i suggest you print it in black in accordance with the rest of the text. --Flaspec (talk) 15:01, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Goran tek-en There is a flag that appeared in the old literature, and I think it's related to that flag. Flaspec I don't know if this flag is well historical research. Could you please review it?--고려 (talk) 14:14, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Goran tek-en Sites that show how to hang flags.--고려 (talk) 14:46, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Info The source provided by 고려 calls this a «Pendón» which translates to Banner in English (not emblem). So I changed the title of this section to reflect the correct naming (Convert Almohad emblem to SVGConvert Almohad banner to SVG). --Flaspec (talk) 15:21, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec The picture of the flag I found in 1921 seems more accurate, what do you think?--고려 (talk) 15:27, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Goran tek-en I don't know English very well, so I'm expressing it with a translator. I'm sorry. This is a flag that was taken in 1921. (detail) --고려 (talk) 14:55, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
고려 This banner was made by Magín Pujadas who has a WCommons category, and I believe that he must have Facsimiled it from somewhere. This is by far the best depiction that we have (in terms of quality), so I suggest we use it. --Flaspec (talk) 15:52, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flaspec It's hard to say that the 1921 photo shoot also has poor image quality. I think it is possible to refer to the pattern. also As you can see by pressing the details, isn't the central description more accurate?--고려 (talk) 16:20, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Donald Trung: I thank you for your concern, however your version has some problems. "A."; "C", "a" and d of "Card"; and each letter of "Ottaviani" look a bit off. I would prefer if a Wikigraphist could either revise the version you uploaded or make one from scratch. Veverve (talk) 20:41, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: , I understand. I looked at the options on the website and I have seen other options like this one which is more faithful, apparently it defaults to option #2 (number two) which distorts the image a bit. I would advise you to try to use the website to see if you can make a better version and then overwrite the above one. I will try to overwrite it using option #1 (number one) and see if you like it more. I am just experimenting here, so I hope that I'm not wasting your time. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:10, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Excel .xlsx spreadsheets that automatically generate XML code for .SVG graphics

Transcluded:
General concept above; examples below.
Warming stripes
(five examples compared)
Warming stripes bar chart
Bar chart (vertical)
Pie chart
Line charts
Scatterplot

I've uploaded .xlsx (Microsoft Excel) spreadsheets that automatically generate XML code for charts in SVG format.

You simply paste or enter your data into the spreadsheet, and specify image dimensions, number of grid lines, font sizes, etc. The spreadsheet instantly and automatically generates a column of XML code that you simply copy and paste into a text editor and save as an ".svg" file. The spreadsheets produce lean SVG code, avoiding the "extra stuff" that Inkscape inserts. They should save you time in creating SVG charts.

Feedback and suggestions on my talk page are welcome. RCraig09 (talk) 23:41, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mrmw: Thank you, perfect design! Could you make a golden version too? Est. 2021 (talk) 06:55, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mrmw: Oh yeah, this shade is perfect but I meant just the metal parts golden, like in File:1908 Meyer & Studeli MST 41.JPG, not numerals too, sorry for not specifying before... I'm stupid. Don't bother if that's more complicated. Thanks for your great work anyway. Est. 2021 (talk) 21:49, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Belt icon (convert to SVG)

Article(s): en:Template:User WP PW, he:תבנית:אליפות ה-WWE and transclusions

Request

Please, remake the Wikipedia and WWE belt icons in SVG. You can use the same base layout for both images. No background. Thanks, Est. 2021 (talk) 02:07, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

PS. On the Wikipedia belt icon, just write "WRESTLING" under the W. No "Pro"!
Graphist opinion(s)
As an interim step, I made an SVG for the belt icon. This is as far as I'll go for now. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 16:11, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can the background be made transparent please? The C of E (talk) 09:13, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
✓ Done - Used GIMP: add alpha channel, use fuzzy select tool to select white background, deleted white (could also use color to alpha). File converted to PNG as JPG doesn't support transparency. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 15:17, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
