Licence of your images

I recommand not to use the CC-licence for your emblems. I know, that is the standard licence if you upload a file, but in the case of an emblem, you just redraw an existing picture which is usually in the public domain. Hi Antemister, the maps I uploaded today are some of my work finished a few months ago, although I have the source image on my computer, the source link are failed to be found. However I find my second one is based on the second page of 新政権の経済的建設. (昭和13, PD). I've added this link to the file description page. The Manchukuo maps are based on a scanned Chinese 1940s map (which is PD-China). Unfortunately I can't find the image on Internet by now, but you may have the divisions seen from [1] (1940 divisions, a few provinces added). OK, thank you for the information. Please always add sources - reusers do not like to look for them a second time (in this case, it is completely impossible to do so for western users). A I also do have some (western) Manchukuo administrative divisions maps here. Another topic, just accidential, but it fits into your recent uploads: Searching for the emblem of the Mengjiang state, I found [2], looking at the third photo, you find an impressed seal improved version. Could it be the government's seal? Can you read ("guess") the characters (or, at least know someone who is familiar with traditional ones), and redraw it (should not be that difficult)?--Antemister (talk) 22:22, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the information and I've been looking for Mengjiang state symbols for a time. Unfortunately, I think the seal is more likely to be a police related authorities seal. I've seen the similar design on Manchukuo documents, which has text in the center and surrounding wheats (usually sorghum, the national flower of Manchukuo). Ah, OK. BUt now it is your hint of a "similar design on Manchukuo documents" that lead my view on File:MENG_CHIANG_BANK_5_CHIAO_1938.jpg (higher res.), that show an emblem that is in fact quite similar to the Manchukuo state emblem. What about this?--Antemister (talk) 13:58, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

I think this seems to be a decoration pattern only, as this symbol only appeared on coins and I didn't see this symbol on other sources. In fact I even doubt whether Mengjiang state had a emblem. --Ericmetro (talk) 11:59, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

A I am pretty sure that some kind of government seal did exist, as we already found two ones of minor authorities. I also do research on that topic, but that's difficult to do so in Europe, as few western literature and practically no original sources is available there. I found two journals, Mengjiang Xinbao and Mengjiang Xinwenshe and german library catalogs, practically the only ones with "Mengjiang" in their title. German Urburschenschaft flag request (copy from Wikipedia page)

Hi Ericmetro, I have noted that you are a very skilled SVG artist with an interest in history and flags. Perhaps you are interested, if you find the time, to make a vector version of the historic German “Urburschenschaft” (Original Student Fraternity) flag found here:

The flag has no copyright, as it is from the early 19th century. It played an important role in German flag history (it lead to the spread of the national colors), yet there isn’t a single vector version available. It’s a simple red-back-red flag, the only complicated thing is a superimposed detailed golden oak branch. If there are doubts regarding the colors, I recommend using those of the black-red-gold German national flag. Imperial chinese Flags

Maybe you have already seen en:Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Illustration_workshop#Flags_of_Qing_China, I was delighted laerning that they are vectorized now. Really, your reply provided another important information to me. I do have a (not very reliable) german book containing thousands tiny black/white drawing of coats of arms of cities and countries, and it shows for imperial China a dragon symbol (see [3], the website is based on that book). Now I also see it in the US flagbook you linked [4]. Do you know if it was really the official emblem?

@Antemister: Yes this coat of arm alike dragon symbol is called "蟠龙" in Chinese culture, and is commonly seen on imperial buildings. It seems to me the Qing dynasty of China didn't adopt an official decree on coat of arms(the flag and anthem did). This symbol is used on lately made coins:[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]

As for the Yellow dragon flag, there're too many variations among actual items, here're some historical sources for references:[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]

OK, thanks for the many pictures! I assume, we should drop this "modern" rendition, not by deleting the flag itself, but the mentioning that it is a more modern than contemporary depiction. Another question: I now download the the flagbook you mentioned above completey, and only one page later you find a panlong emblem with some chinese characters which a declared to the the "coat of arms" (although it is no coat of arms in the western sense, of course). @Antemister: I've checked the "coat of arms" on the US naval flag book, but I think it still need much more evidence to prove it's the coat of arms of Qing dynasty. I've never seen it on other occasions. The Chinese characters are written in Seal script, that is much different from standard Chinese characters. I'm able to tell "大清[ ]統" (means"Great Qing [unknown] United), but the character on the right is hardly to be identified. --Ericmetro (talk) 16:20, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Mengjiang

I had a look into these Mengjiang Xinbao and Mengjiang Xinwenshe papers and scanned some pages were I found images that look like emblems. Maybe you can have a look into and check if you can identify one. Two Coat of Arms Requests

Hello Ericmetro.

I have seen that there are two coats of arms that lack SVG vector versions, despite such vectors would be needed. As I find your works very well done and detailed, I figured that I could ask you to create them.

The first coat of arms is this file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wappen_Preu%C3%9Fen.png

"This coat of arms image could be recreated using vector graphics as an SVG file." It's in the "Top 200 coat of arms images that should use vector graphics", yet since almost a decade no-one has bothered to make a vector file.

To my confusion, there is a SVG version available, as a part (!) of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coat_of_Arms_of_East_Prussia.svg However, the shield is not available as a separate file and it isn't an exact rendering of the PNG file linked above. It may provide certain details, like the crown. To be perfectly honest, I don't like the eagle in the SVG and prefer the one in the PNG. So the point of my request is to make an exact vector copy of the PNG file, using some elements of the SVG which is currently available. (This is possible according to the licensing.)

The second coat of arms is https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sudetenland_wappen.gif of which no exact copy exists as an SVG despite its design is rather simplistic. The file is not protected by copyright and used on several language editions of Wikipedia, so replacing it with an SVG would be advised. If you need additional sources, there are pictures of it at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Heiligenhof_05.JPG https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Burg_Hohenberg_Infotafel.JPG and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sudeten-Gedenktafel_%28Linz%29.jpg

There is an SVG available at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Reichsgau_Sudetenland_Coat_of_Arms.svg but this is for a historic territory within Nazi Germany using simliar symbols, while the coat of arms requested above represents an ethnic group and looks different, so the two are not to be confused.

If you create those SVG files, please make sure that you put them in the same categories on Wikimedia Commons as the original files, and that you attribute the original authors. And please grant the same license terms as the orginal non-SVG files have, so that the new SVGs can properly replace them without licensing issues, and that they can be used in the same way and at the same places.

This isn't a pressing issue - as you can see no-one bothered to make SVGs in all those years. I consider it as tying up a few loose ends. If you intend to do it, take your time and thanks in advance.--Equality 7-2522 (talk) 10:58, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Wikimedia User Group China logo

Hi there - I noticed you uploaded File:Wikimedia User Group China-en.svg under the CC BY-SA 3.0 license. The original logo is ineligible for copyright due to being simple, as would be any text added to the logo. If it's all right, I'd like to remake the Wikimedia User Group China logo with {{PD-ineligible}}. Let me know if this is or isn't okay with you. There are two different variants of the flags/emblems, for which different font types and sizes are used at the moments for the both variants of the emblem. Please equalize them.[29] and [30] show the arrangement of the letters, which is already correct. Then, two CoAs are still missing, File:Coat of arms of the Tuvan ASSR (1962-1978).svg as well as File:Coat of arms of the Tuvan ASSR (1978-1992).svg. Create them using File:Coat of arms of Crimean ASSR.svg or File:Coat of arms of Kalmyk ASSR.svg for example. For the text use File:Flag of Tuvan ASSR (1978-1992).svg and PYGY TELEGEJNIŅ PROLETARLARЬ, KATTЬƵЬŅAR! and ПРОЛЕТАРИИ ВСЕХ СТРАН, СОЕДИНЯЙТЕСЬ! and PCФCP. Request: Legacy Imperial Coat of Arms of Germany (19th Century)

Hello Ericmetro,

I ask you, as you are a very skilled artist specialized on these issues, whether you'd like to make a vector graphics file (SVG) of the above former German arms. (All JPEG.)

Successor CoA to the version this is about.

These were used for some time, including evidently on official documents, but there is currently still no vector version available. (The copyright has of course expired, if there was any.) The files listed above provide - in my unprofessional opinion - sufficiently information on colors and details. There is some artistic freedom regarding the exact choices.

The central shield already exists as an SVG, included in the image file linked on the right.

As you perhaps know, it is the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Prussia, and there is plenty material out there. You are free to do your own version based on what I linked above, if you have the time and interest.

This isn't a very pressing or crucial issue. It's merely about filling a gap on Wikipedia and improving the site's quality. As you saw yourself, the "Reichsadler_1871-1888" file currently used for illustration purposes has a terribly bad quality.

As the point is to replace this JPEG file with an SVG version, the name of the new file should be "Reichsadler_1871-1888.svg", meaning Imperial Eagle used from 1871 to 1888. (The file on the right was the replacement of these historic arms and should not be confused with the outdated 71-88 version; however it shares many elements with it.)

Hi, can you please upload your graphic under a different filename, and revert the named file to the original upload? We want to have as many different versions of such things as we can, but we don't want to eliminate older ones like that by overwriting them. Additionally, the licensing information now does not at all match your version -- only the original one that I uploaded is PD-USGov. If you took that one and re-drew most of it, then you would own a substantial derivative copyright, and you need to license that (again, documented in another upload). If you found your vector at a different source, you would need to determine the copyright status of that source (which could be completely unrelated to the copyright in the original upload). I'll revert that file at some point if you don't, for licensing reasons if nothing else as you did not specify the source or the license of the new upload, but would like to have yours available at another file if possible first. Inner Mongol Peoples Republic

Hi, I see now that it was the red-blue one all the time, never fully red. However, the red one with a blue soyombo and white star is totally fake!! It should not be used, even deleted.--Havsjö (talk) 11:05, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

@Havsjö: I agree. There is no fully red version of Inner-Mongolian Autonomous Government (the photo source was the previous file was the foundation of Inner-Mongolian Autonomous Government (zh-wiki: [36]) in 1947. [37]), and I don't think their symbol will be used on the flag of Inner Mongolian People's Republic, a short lived pro-nationalist regime.

I haven't found any source for the previous blue soyombo one. If we can be certain it's totally fictional, I would suggest have it deleted. --Ericmetro (talk) 01:53, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

When I searched around regarding the flag of the Inner Mongol Republic prior to replacing it with the fully red one, after I really suspected the blue-soyombo-flag to be unauthentic, I found its source as the flag for an alternate-reality/history Inner Mongolia on an alt-history wiki... Btw, do you know then what the flag of the Inner Mongol REPUBLIC was? If the Red-Blue one is only for the Autonomous Government(?) Did it just carry over? @Havsjö: The Inner Mongolian People's Republic was founded by pro-Japanese officials after the fall of Mengjiang. Officially it was called the Provisional Government of Inner Mongolian People's Republic.

I found a book on Google Books, which provides some information: Chiang Kai Shek's Management of Mongolia before and after the Anti-Japanese War (by Dongsheng Hou, American Academic Press, [38]).

• Page 71 mentioned the Autonomous Government Flag was first designed by Eastern Mongol People's Autonomous Government in 1946.
• Page 74 cited from the memoirs of en:Ulanhu: "I saw this Provisional Government, which lasted for only one month, its employees came to work every day and raised their national flag."

Thus, we can infer that there did exist a flag for the provisional government, however I didn't found their consititution online, nor any photo due its short duration for merely one month. However the provisional government won't be able to use a flag that was designed in 1946.

I didn't find any other information for the blue soyombo flag (and even the blue soyombo flag without white star for PR Mongolia is doubtful). --Ericmetro (talk) 20:15, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Chinese Soviet Republic

Hi, Ericmetro. 2 questions.
1. Should not have the text "中华苏维埃共和国" in an arch above it (in gold or possible white)? Source:[40][41]
2. The above flag is from 1933 (as seen at the top of the first picture). The 1934 constitution then says "the flag is red with the state emblem on it". Should it not then be red with on it? Or do you think its likely that the version without the white circle was the intended design? The museum where the Soviet was located etc [42][43][44] seems to consider the literal description from the constitution to be correct. --Havsjö (talk) 21:32, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Flags of the 1st & 2nd East Turkestan Republics

Hi again. I was just thinking you may have some information or sources surrounding the flags used by the 1st and 2nd East Turkestans. There is a lot of conflicting, unclear, and confusing info that I find!
Here is what I gather:
In the initial rebellion ~1932 the Uighur rebels use a triangular flag with tails [45], this site shows supposed colors/details [46]. People here[47] also talk about a triangular, light-blue flag (sometimes with tails).
Then there is claims that the 1st ETR (after establishment?) used this flag[48], claimed by the same sources as above: [49][50]
The typical "Kökbayraq" is shown clearly (not in triangular form) behind the President of the 1st ETR[51]. Some talk about the use of this flag here[52] and Uighur nationalists websites insist on the use of this flag as the historic national flag of the 1st ETR (which they use frequently today). These more "legitimate" sources [53][54] also say the "Kökbayraq" was the flag of the 1st ETR.
Other stuff: [55] in 1934. [56] 1934 triangular(?) flags with red(?) edges, but seems to be white with blue(?) moon+star!
To me, it seems that the triangular variant of the "Kökbayraq" was used in the early rebellion and probably the rectangular version became more common in the Republic (including as formally adopted flag). I guess white variants also appeared occasionally?

As for the 2nd ETR from 1944. The same places as above[57][58] talk about a "Kökbayraq" with the moon+star flipped [59][60] (often shown to be "hollow").
Medals used in the 2nd ETR very often show the moon+star in that angle on a light-blue background [61][62][63] and this "monochrome" stamp used light-blue as the dominant colour which mainly shows the flag with that type of symbol [64]
BUT, Saifuddin Azizi wrote that the flags of the 2nd republic were "One is a white star and moon on the green floor, and the other written Shahada with gold powder"
This is a first-hand source and are backed up by others: at the bottom on the above source [65], one insists that the 2nd ETR flag was green + gold symbol. This above source [66] also shows a green flag (but seems to claim its from another republic within the 2nd ETR(???), I think this is just a mistake from confusion, and the actual claim is that 2nd ETR used the green flag). THIS IMAGE (although colourized) [67] shows clearly the flags and they have been coloured green + gold and white + gold. A white(?) flag is also seen behind the president of the 2nd ETR here [68] and on the money[69].
There is also the flag (+ the KMT-chinese one) here [70], this same photo shows the star + moon more clearly, but seems to be edited.[71]. The star+moon is in any case visible in first picture, but the colours are hard to determine.
So the claim by Saifuddin Azizi seems likely to be true... Perhaps the light-blue is just used as the traditional "uighur colour", but it seems a bit strange this would not have been used on the flag...

Emblem of Lao People’s Democratic Republic used from 1975 to 1991

Hello, I found another source for the emblem of Lao PDR used from 1975 to 1991, and having a similar variant used from a propaganda film from 1980s as stated here on this source via youtube timestamp 29:37 [74] it has a generic hammer and stickle in black and grey shades and the 5 pointed star has different colorizarion, while the 3rd banner of the emblem has 3 words just as assembled to the current one, the rice fields has few plots, and the electrictral outposts has black outline, and it also has a different shape of a tree. League of Communists of Yugoslavia (LCY)

Hi

I saw your great work on creating the File:Emblem of the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea.svg, and I'm wondering if you can do the same for the logo of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia.

Our current logo is incorrect; File:Emblem of the SKJ.svg, File:Emblem of the SKJ (Cyrillic).svg, File:Emblem of the KPJ (Cyrillic) (1920 — 1952).png. While there are two different designs, one sees clearly File:XI Kongres SKJ, Beograd 1978.jpg & File:X Kongres SKJ, Beograd 1974.jpg that the abbreviation is within the star (and not outside of it, if that makes sense).

This is where I'm spoilt: I need five logoes. One with КПЈ, one with CKJ, one with KPJ and one with SKJ. The first two are in Cyrillic, and the last two in Latin. The last logo is just the star and no abbreviation underneath.
