All nine seats on the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools school board in North Carolina were up for at-large and by-district general election on November 6, 2018. A primary took place on May 8, 2018. Six incumbents filed for re-election. Incumbent Elisabeth Motsinger (D) and challengers Deanna Frazier Kaplan (D) and Andrea Pace Bramer (D) won the three at-large seats. Barbara Hanes Burke (D) and Malishai "Shai" Woodbury (D) won the pair of District 1 seats, and incumbents Lida Calvert Hayes (R), Dana Caudill Jones (R), Lori Goins Clark (R), and Leah Crowley (R) won the four District 2 seats.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is located in North Carolina. The district was the fourth-largest school district in the state in the 2014–2015 school year and served 54,762 students.[1]

In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump (R) won North Carolina with 49.8 percent of the vote. Hillary Clinton (D) received 46.2 percent. In presidential elections between 1792 and 2016, North Carolina voted Democratic 53.5 percent of the time and Republican 25 percent of the time. In the five presidential elections between 2000 and 2016, North Carolina voted Republican all five times with the exception of the 2008 presidential election.[2]

In 2016, Hillary Clinton (D) won 44 out of 120 state House districts in North Carolina with an average margin of victory of 36.4 points. Clinton won three districts controlled by Republicans heading into the 2018 elections.
In 2012, Mitt Romney (R) won 80 out of 120 state House districts in North Carolina with an average margin of victory of 22.7 points. In 2016, Donald Trump (R) won 76 out of 120 state House districts in North Carolina with an average margin of victory of 27.7 points. Trump won five districts controlled by Democrats heading into the 2018 elections.
