Stephen L. Roth was a judge for the Utah Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the court in 2010 by Governor Gary Herbert and confirmed by the Utah Senate on February 25, 2010.[1] He was retained in 2014.[2] He retired effective August 1, 2017.[3]
Education
Roth received his J.D. from Brigham Young University in 1977.[4]

Roth served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1974.[4]

Court of Appeals nomination
Roth was one of seven candidates recommended to Governor Herbert by the Utah Court of Appeals Nominating Commission to fill the seat on the Utah Court of Appeals vacated by Pamela Greenwood in 2009.[6] Herbert appointed Roth, saying, "In his almost eight years as a trial court judge, Judge Roth has distinguished himself as an intelligent and hardworking public servant with a well-deserved reputation for fairness and integrity."[7][8] The appointment was subject to approval by the Utah Senate, which was unanimously granted on February 25, 2010.[1][9]

Roth was retained to the Court of Appeals with 76.7 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [2]
