Phyllis Kravitch
Phyllis A. Kravitch was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. She was reassigned to a new seat on the Eleventh Circuit on October 1, 1981, which was created by a statute reorganizing the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. She elected to take senior status beginning on December 31, 1996, and she served as a senior federal judge until her death on June 15, 2017.
Prior to her reassignment to the Eleventh Circuit, Judge Kravitch served on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit from 1979 to 1981.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Savannah, Georgia, Kravitch earned her B.A. from Goucher College in 1941 and her LL.B. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1943.[1]

Judicial career
Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals
Kravitch was reassigned to a new seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on October 1, 1981, which was created by a statute reorganizing the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. She elected to take senior status beginning on December 31, 1996, and she served as a senior federal judge until her death on June 15, 2017. She was succeeded in this position by Judge Frank Hull.[1]
Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals
Kravitch was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit by President Jimmy Carter on January 19, 1979, to a seat vacated by Lewis Morgan. Kravitch was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 21, 1979, and she received her commission on March 23, 1979. Kravitch's service on the Fifth Circuit terminated on October 1, 1981, due to her reassignment to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.[1]
