Noel Lawrence Hillman is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He joined the court in 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush (R). Hillman assumed senior status on April 4, 2022.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, Hillman graduated from Monmouth University with his bachelor's degree in 1981 and later received his Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1985. Hillman received a Master's of Laws degree from New York University School of Law in 1998.[1]

Professional career

Hillman was a private practice attorney in the State of New Jersey in 1986 before serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Federal Appeals Judge Maryanne Barry during her former tenure in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey from 1986 to 1988. Hillman served as an assistant United States attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey from 1992 to 2001, serving as the deputy chief prosecutor for the Criminal Prosecution division from 2000 to 2001. Hillman was the principal deputy chief prosecutor for the public integrity section of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey from 2001 to 2002 before serving as the acting chief prosecutor of the Division from 2002 to 2003 and as the chief of the public integrity division from 2003 to 2006.[1]

Judicial career

District of New Jersey

Hillman was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey by President George W. Bush (R) on January 25, 2006, to a seat vacated by William Bassler as Bassler assumed senior status. Hillman was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 8, 2006, on a Senate Yea/Nea vote and received commission on June 12, 2006.[2] He assumed senior status on April 4, 2022.[1]
