Mission
The mission statement of the Mississippi Department of Education reads:[1]

Superintendent
The current Mississippi Superintendent of Education is Lance Evans (nonpartisan). Evans assumed office in 2024.
State Board of Education
The Mississippi State Board of Education is composed of nine members. The board also consists of the Secretary of State, the Attorney General and the state public school superintendent. The governor appoints five members, while the lieutenant governor appoints two and the Speaker of the House appoints two. The board is responsible for management and investment of school funds according to law; academic performance and setting the academic curriculum.[3]
