James Beverly (Democratic Party) is a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 143. He assumed office in 2011. His current term ends on January 13, 2025.

Beverly (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives to represent District 143. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

On November 10, 2020, Georgia House Democrats elected Beverly as minority leader.[1]

Biography

As of January 2020, James Beverly lived in Macon Georgia. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Guilford College. Beverly has graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He also received his MBA from Wesleyan College and his MPA from Harvard University. His career experience includes working as an optometrist. He has served as the Minority Caucus Chairman and as a member on the Appropriations Committee.[2]

Elections for the Georgia House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with runoff elections taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent James T. Beverly defeated Lonzy F. Edwards in the Democratic primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[7][8][9]

Beverly defeated fellow Democrat Anissa M. Jones (D) in the July 19 special election primary for House District 139. The election was a nonpartisan special election with an open primary. Since only two candidates ran for the seat, a runoff election will not be necessary. The special election for State House District 139 took place in a portion of Bibb County.[12][13]
